Goreliks. The last time I was banned, it was because I made a report to the secret service about death threats against POTUS, waited a coup-le of days and posted that on the board.:D

Holy crap!!! That MrBenchley is real mouth, isn't he? Everyone over there keeps asking him to back up his ideas/statements but he can't. He just spews insults and generally annoys his own board members.

Wow. That was awful. It's like watching 3rd graders argue. "You didn't prove it!" "Yes I did" "No you didn't" "I did too" "No you didn't!" "Yes I did, and you're a retard!"

I needed that link like I need pernicious anemia.

But one of them WAS smart:

I found that board to be composed of many intelligent, decent folk. Not the rabid 2nd amendment type of redneck, in fact I will
return to that board and have become a member due to the reasoned
and kind responses to the questioner.
I have several guns all self defense type as I no longer hunt, since I figured out I knew more men that needed killing than animals. Fortunately I have never needed to use any for self defense but when traveling I have felt a lot more secure in strange motels and if ever stranded by the side of the road.

I believe well-meaning liberals are beating a dead horse on the gun issue and it will never be overturned and it only gives us a weak-kneed Nelly reputation. As that site shows responsible gun owners are good citizens maybe we need more of them on this board. Gun owners that is! If you noticed they are very concerned
about all of our civil rights and they are not all freepers, mayhhap we could use them as allies in our cause, with the same kind of reasoned response most of them showed the questioner.

MB, good move posting that link on DU. I visit there from time to time, and I think this one may just have a "ripple effect" among the more sane members over there (yes, I know many of them are not sane, but you can't win 'em all...).

Wow.....I read about 4 posts over there and I feel physically sick.

You have to love this line: "Stay away from gun nut boards.
You cannot argue or reason with them, there world is black and white."

Sure....the people on your board are completely open minded and open to logical non confrontational debate.

A couple of decent responses (made me suspect that some of you guys were undercover in the Underground). Other than that, I could feel my IQ dropping with each post I read.

most of them seem to be ad hominem attacks on gun owners in general and THR members in particular.

This has been a hoot!

I first found DU when Neal Boortz linked to some of the more idiotic posts. A source of cheap entertainment.:neener:

My gosh, I can say for sure that this isnt what I thought was going to happen...but Im starting to see which side is the more rational.

DU Quote: "What I have proved is what I have proved, As for respect, that's earned....want to hear how much you've earned?"
-MrBenchley

THR Quote: "I will never aquiesce and relegate any or all aspects and applications of everyday life that are even fractionally congruent to my safety and security and thus my natural and inherent liberty to another person, civil authority, or theologic dogma - even under duress to comply with a contemporary and popular fad that so deviously and methodically insitst I cherish helplessness, weakness, and thence devoiton to the patriarchial governance of the cattle-herder of the socialist.
There is a wonder to be embraced with relish and joy in achieving and pursuing the legitimacy to stand beside the ghosts of those bloodied patriots, men and women and children, ordinary people, who shook the bedrock of this planet and, for the first time saw simple ideas become the words:
"We, the People. . ."
Liberty...is not bestowed benevolently by a totalitarian government, authorized by a theocratic dogma - it is what makes us completely unique in the entire history of man - and it has incredible, broad, persistent responsibilities."
-Trisha

The only thing Im worried about now is a DU member snapping and going on a shooting spree:uhoh:

Heh - Yeah, I think that more than a few folks who just plain don't like guns _know_ deep in their psyches that they'd be the ones who'd go on a rampage - So, they seek to transfer this to other people.... More than a few times I've heard folks say "I just couldn't have one of those in my house - I just know I'd shoot someone."

Pretty weird... And if you wanna get a few laughs at someone's expense, agree with them, and let them know that you're very grateful that they've realized their mental health issues, and that you're glad that they're seeking help with their anger issues. They _are_ seeking help, right? (look VERY concerned as they start to grow purple...)

A few years ago, when Missouri was having the referendum on concealed carry, I got into a discussion... The person I was talking with couldn't grasp the difference between a legally armed person, and a criminal. He told me that if he was in a restaurant, and knew that someone was carrying a concealed handgun, he'd "grab a steak knife and stab them before they could shoot everyone." He failed to realize that his hypothesized actions were INCREDIBLY violent, given the circumstances.

You'll find that many "gun nuts" are incredibly peaceful people. The fact that we have the means at hand to make the command "please go away and don't bother me" actually work at times enables this.

That reminded me a lot of kindergarten - especially the one that just wrote "Gun Nut" over and over - either that or a mental hospital.
Who's really the "nut" - me because I have a gun (or guns) or the person 1000 miles away crying because they don't like the fact that I can own a gun?

Against my better judgement, I actually read the entire linked thread, and I'm still shaking my head. I even had to register and post a reply to that "MrBenchley" fool, as follows. I'm wondering if he'll even BOTHER to reply.

"Why is Switzerland, with each home issued a selective fire assault rifle, not overrun with violent crime?"
Perhaps because in Switzerland not only is every rifle and gun owner strictly registered, but every round of ammunition must be accounted for in WRITING."

For your "logic" to make sense, MrBenchley, I would have to believe that the possible consequences of not being able to produce your issued ammunition would have to be a whole lot MORE SEVERE than the consequences of using your issued STG90 and 500 rounds of ammunition in some sort of mass killing. Somehow, I don't think this is the case, do you? Or are you saying that a Swiss citizen who is considering killing his neighbours suddenly has a flash of thought along the lines of "Oh no! If I open up my ammuntion ration (issued to provide ammo until I can get to my assigned depot) and use that rifle and ammunition to kill a bunch of people, I MIGHT GET IN TROUBLE FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO PRODUCE MY ISSUED EQUIPMENT AT THE NEXT INSPECTION."
You're going to have to come up with a better explanation, methinks.

I read a lot of that thread and saw this way down:

one of the DU people read the J Castilla thread and was impressed with how we were respectful and didnt act like the anti gun people on DU

I'm halfway down the thread, and suprisingly they haven't sunk to calling each other freeps yet, or claiming the THR thread is a hoax.

I should send this link to my sister. She'd fit in nicely over there :|

Folks,

While I appreciate that the Castilla thread was great (and it really was!), this thread is hardly a great advertisement for THR.

Someone commented that their thread was nothing but a bunch of ad-hominems against gun owners and THR members. And this one is ... what??

Because of that, and because THR does not do forum wars, this thread is closed.
