Here's one for ya. I am looking at a custom Remington 700 at my local shop. The catch is, it has been fitted with a .223 caliber barrel made by "Schilling". I have zero idea as to the quality of this barrel and cannot find much solid, conclusive info on the web. I am very, very interested, because, if this is a quality barrel, I will purchase the rifle. So, anyone know??
Plus, if my question does not stump you, then you are a gun-god.

Part of the reason you can't find it on the web is the company is Shilen and they are in Ennis, TX. They make excellent barrels.

I am quite sure the barrel says "Schilling". Also, it is a standard sporter weight barrel and not a varmint contour.

There is a German gun maker of that name. Joerg Schilling. Very high end stuff. His site is in German, but click on 'Produktion' to see some of their stuff.
Seems to be specializing in colour case hardening. They do make rifles though. Your rifle obviously has one of their barrels. Possibly a U.S. troopie had the barrel put on while stationed in Germany.
I don't think I'd turn it down if the price is right.

Consider the possibility that the barrel was fitted by somebody named Schilling. I have seen numerous rifles with aftermarket barrels but they were stamped, if at all, with the name of the gunsmith, not the barrelmaker.
I have a Krieger and a Pac-Nor and neither one is marked with the brand name. Nor a gunsmith because Kreiger installed theirs and the Pac-Nor was a Savage DIY installation.
The Douglas I had was marked on the blank but by the time it was contoured and trimmed to length, that was gone.

Hmm, the store has two rifles, actually. They are both the exact same, except one is .223 and the other is 22-250. They are both equipped with "Schilling" barrels, the same stock, and older Bausch and Lomb Balvar 2-8x scopes. The same old fellow braught them in and they both have hair triggers in the sub-pound range. Finally, they are both priced at $450. I am thinking about that .223.....:)

Schilling in Germany, that's right across the street (for me) interesting.
Sometimes a link to a homepage helps alot.
