Just got a sweet M57-1 from a fellow board member. A very nice gun.

I am looking for its birthday, if someone could help.

Ser # AUC20**

thanks

bob

Plans are a 3" ported tube, bobbed hammer, trigger job, and bead blasted finish ( it sure is shiny now).

I don't find any listing for an "AUC" prefix. The model 57-1 was made between 1982-1988. The main change was to eliminate the pinned barrel and counter-bored chambers. Before you comtemplate custom modifications check with S&W's Customer Service on the advisability of unscrewing the barrel.

Yep, it is a 57-1, with the 3 letter suffix. Not pinned or recessed. But it does have a hammer mounted firing pin. Bright nickel finish.

SCOS&W, 2ed, SN appendix shows that 3 letter prefix to be between Jun 86 and Jul 87. The section on Model 57's shows the 57-1 being made from 82-86 and the 57-2 starting in 88. If you have the box, it will have a product code of 102208 or 102210, depending on bbl length. If you want to narrow it down further, call S&W and they will tell you a BOD. Alternatively, you can spend $30 and get a history letter from them.
