Has anyone here actually used filler material in light revolver loads to keep the gunpowder close to the primer?

Is it necessary, recommended, or not worth thinking about?

I know Paco Kelly writes about it. But does anyone here actually do this?

If you do it, or have tried it, what is your opinion of its effectiveness; and what did you use for filler material?

I've tried fluffy dacron (Walmart fabric area) and styrofoam sheets that I cut with a sharp beveled case mouth. When I shoot target light loads the gun is aways horizontal so I noticed no difference over my normal target loads. When I load long range and hunting type loads I always use a powder that fills the case.

I still think it would make a difference when shooting with light loads in the hills. But where I live there are no hills.

I have used Kapok, Oatmeal Flakes and tissue as fillers on lightly loaded .44mag reloads. If it made a difference, I never knew about it. I have not used fillers in 25 years and do not intend to. Some folks have said that the use of fillers can create dangerous pressures and "ringing" of the barrel. I believe that is more likely with bottleneck cartridges than with straight wall cases.
