DAO question

Do DAO revolvers have a stiffer trigger pull than automatics? I'm in the market for a DAO for my girlfriend, just to keep things simpler for her while she's a newbie.

Depends on the auto.
A DA revolver, of course, has a heavier pull than a single action auto.
However, a DA revolver almost always has a lighter pull than a typical DA/SA auto, or most DA-only autos.

Depends, but overall I would say that a striker fired pistol can be made to have a very smooth DAO trigger (for instance - Kahr's).
Revolver DAO's have to turn the cylinder via the action of pulling the trigger. Hammer fired pistols have to cock the hammer back via the same action.
Regardless, there are a lot of very smooth DAO actions out there, especially after a smith works one over.

Para Ordnance LDA, the world's sweetest double action trigger.

It also depends on whether the guns in question have been customized or not. I had a CZ-75 tuned by Teddy Jacobson (http://www.actionsbyt.com/), and the double-action trigger was sweet... but the sweetest DA of all is on my S&W revolvers, tuned by Clark Custom Guns (http://www.clarkcustomguns.com/). Those are so good that revolver aficionados almost drool when they try them! I've had many offers to buy those revolvers, but they're not for sale... :D

Might need to separate the auto DAO sytems to make it a bit fairer.
Para's LDA, HK's LEM, etc.. are really "assited" double action pulls, more like the Glock sysytem. Comparing that to a single pull of the trigger doing all the work mecahnical work like on a revolver or auto like a Beretta D model is not really fair.
That said there are good and bad pulls on various autos and revolvers, but IMHO and experience 90% of stock revolvers will have a lighter DA pull than 90% of stock autos. If you send the the same sample off to a top notch smith to put in light springs and do a perfect trigger job I'd still bet 90% of the revolvers would beat 90% of the autos. "Half cocked" autos as noted above excepted.

Really does depend on many factors, but for the most part there is nothing like the trigger on a vintage S&W revolver. Now once you add in the work of a qualified gunsmith, everything gets all jumbled up :)
