And somewhere in that time period, I'm very likely going to be spending time in a Federal building in downtown Dallas doing jury duty.

Oh well, I'll be safe--they don't allow guns, knives, or even pepper spray in the building... :fire:

If I were an Islamic terrorist savage, Texas would be one of the very last places I'd even consider: too many loyal American citizens with too many firearms and too much ammunition.

Yeah but there are too many tempting targets for them nutcases too. Bush Intercontinental Airport is probably on their top ten list of scenic places to visit for obvious reasons. It's a disarmed victims zone with $6/hr security 'professionals' too.

You can never have too many guns and the only time you have too much ammo is when your gun shop is on fire.

Trust me, I know:(

BTW, does anyone know what the going price is for a terrorist's pelt these days?
It may have a few holes in it.:D

What's the best technique for skinning one of those suckers?
It shouldn't be too messy. They have no guts.

Makes ya wonder where that missing African 707 is doesn't it?

Rumor has it they are targeting Houston refineries and petroleum plants.

But who knows.

If I were an Islamic terrorist savage, Texas would be one of the very last places I'd even consider: too many loyal American citizens with too many firearms and too much ammunition

If they employ the same tactics as 9/11 every gun I have wouldn't do any good against a kamikaze jumbo jet.

Irony of it is... I live and work in Houston and the day of 9/11/01 I had the radio turned on low in the background. When I first heard the news of large explosions and fires my natural assumption was that they had hit the refineries and I stood up to look out my window to see if I could see a plume of smoke from that direction. Not until 30 more seconds of attentive listening did I realize what was really happening.

Living in Houston with all the refineries (something like 50%+ of the US oil supply flows through here....) you would have to be a fool not to think we are a primary target at any time, not just under this current warning.

Stay vigilant.

I being a naturalized Texan would do the sporting thing and leave my AK clones at home and take out the terrorist suckers with my 45-70 handi rifle.

I work at several of the refineries and petrochemical plants in the SE Texas area. The security employeed after 9/11 was initially very tight, but has slackened up quite a bit. During a high-threat period, each plant will bring a deputy out from the Sheriff's dept to sit at the guard gate and look generally bored even though he is making some fat overtime. They have concrete barriers that you have to zig-zag around to get through the gate, so this will probably prevent a high-speed crash-through. The real problem is that the terrorists would have to have a very thorough knowledge of chemical engineering to know what process units to hit, and then a very specific knowledge of where those units are and where exactly the vulnerable parts are within that unit. If you have ever visited a refinery/petrochem plant, you know that the process units often have limited access and require tight manuvering by even a small vehicle. By the time they got in position to blow something up with a truck, the operators would have initiated an emergency shutdown and fled the scene. Said terrorists would be left blowing up a couple million dollars of pipes and if they get real lucky, a cracker or distillation tower. End result: several tons of scrap metal, an upset emission of some VOCs, and lost time and revenue from disruption of that particular stream. Not much different than a standard shutdown/turnaround. Not much of a return for that kind of effort. A bigger psychological target I think would be a public entertainment venue like Astroworld. Of course, there are always a few stubborn CHL holders that still carry in the park even though they're not supposed to.;)

Yep... and since most of Al Qaeda seems to come from the oil-producing parts of the world, they probably have many, many members who've worked in refineries, or who have access to that sort of "specific knowledge". Not a comforting thought...

Don't you love it, a terror alert for Texas. Well, at least they were not too vague.

JohnSKa, if you really feel you may be in jeopardy during jury duty, you might consider checking with the folks there to see if they would allow you to carry an EVACU8 hood. The EVACU8 is basically a short term purified air system with a fire retardent hood that is supposed to be good to something like 1200 F. The air system is supposed to be good for something like 20 minutes. So while you may not be allowed to have weapons, hopefully they will allow you to have one of these units and so if the building is bombed or set ablaze and you survive, then hopefully the EVACU8 will provide the protection needed for you to get out of the building and not succombing to fumes, smoke, or flame.

I would also suggest arriving early and scoping out all the appropriate fire escape routes. It is a lot easier to learn where they are and where they go when you are not scrambling to save your life. There will be confusion enough without being lost.

$6 an hour security professional.

Is that anything like military intelligence?

Hey, great! I'm flying into Houston on the 2nd and staying until the 7th. Lucky me. Should be all kinds of fun.

If they employ the same tactics as 9/11 every gun I have wouldn't do any good against a kamikaze jumbo jet. It would do a heck of lot of good if we were allowed to carry even one on the plane.

But common logic dictates that if somebody was to shoot a hole in the plane, everybody on board would get sucked out.

Agreed. My point is I'm in TX and if the jet was coming at me.....

ALso we're not allowed to carry on a plane so it is a moot point anyway.:banghead:

Unfortunately, the best targets for terrorists (Six Flags, Astroworld, Texas Stadium, etc) also prohibit CCW. Nothing more secure like having a bunch of sheeple protected by rent-a-cops who barely speak English...:what:

Glad I live out in the rural boondocks. If a terrorist attack occurs here, it means that the terrorists were lost...:scrutiny:

Let's all hope this alert has the same outcome the rest have.
No attack.

One more attack against the US and I think we will show the terrorist and their backers what world wide terror really means.

You are with us or against us will really mean something.

Maybe we will get away from the silly crap like taking your finger nail clippers at the airport and do something constructive.:fire:

A couple CCW on those 9-11 airplanes and 9-11 would have been far different and still the liberal trators in this country don't even want to arm the pilots. Unbelievable.

jumping on yet another thread of hope that something big will break and they can have another good frenzy,

or maybe theyre trying to create their very own frenzy to feed off for a while

gotta sell those sponsor products somehow,,,

then again, it COULD be a diversion,,,

i don't recall the 911 terrorists letting us in on their plans before hand

why would they now?

please,,,don't get me started on the media again :barf:
