I am considering buying this rifle: Armi Sport 1861 Springfield Black Powder Rifle 58 Caliber Percussion (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=958934) from MidwayUsa.

Does anyone have experience with this product? If so how does it shoot? Is it reliable?

I'd like to shoot round shot or minie balls out of it? Short of molding my own where could I buy bullets (midway has round shot but not the minie ball). Where would be the best place to buy the percussion caps? What accessories would I need to get started? Pyrodex or real black powder?

Lots of questions and I know I've left something out but adding a Civil War replica rifle to my collection is something I've wanted to do for a while and I shoot everything I buy (otherwise why have it) so any tales you can relate would be much appreciated.

I owned an Armi Sport 1861. I really enjoyed shooting it. I always used a patched round ball and 60 grains of FFG Pyrodex. It would shoot nearly a foot high at 50 yards, but it was consistant. I could only get around 5 shots before I had to remove the nipple and clean it out. If I failed to do so, I would have a misfire. I shot a large doe with it one season using the round ball load. It didn't even act like it was hit when it turned and ran 100 yrds. I had hit the deer squarely in the chest, taking out the heart-lung area. I decided then and there to use the minie ball for hunting in the future. I ordered mine through Taylors and Company. They are fine folks to deal with. I hope this was of some help to you.
