June 19, 2007, 02:53 AM
Marlin 25n bolt action .22lr , wish I still had it.

June 19, 2007, 02:57 AM
Well, first came the Daisy BB rifle,
followed by some kind of pump up pellet rifle.

The first "real" gun was a Remington Nylon 66 in .22 LR,
followed by a single shot 20 ga.

I no longer have any of them.

June 19, 2007, 04:55 AM
My handle says it all. My good ole Smith and Wesson .357.

June 19, 2007, 05:00 AM
It was a Sears-Roebuck, Marlin-made .22 bolt action rifle made in the late 40s or early 50s. My mom gave it to me when I was 10 or 11.

I had to be careful of the bolt unscrewing itself and the slide safety would come off just by tilting the rifle, but I surely had fun with it and learned a lot by using it.

June 19, 2007, 06:11 AM
Beretta 87 Target * 2.

One for me and one for the missus!!

June 19, 2007, 07:25 AM
Mine were a Sig 228 and a Mossberg 500, bought at the same time. I swore to the wife those would be the only 2 guns ever purchased. Now 40 guns and 5yrs later. She is still with me, and I tell her that they are "for the children."

June 19, 2007, 07:28 AM
My first gun was a Marlin 22LR bolt action rifle when I was a kid. I loved that rifle. Wish I still had it. :(

My first handgun was a CZ75B 9mm. I love that handgun and I still do have it. :)

June 19, 2007, 07:50 AM
I was taught how to shoot on a Ithica Model 49 single shot. The first gun I bought is a Colt Woodsman Match Target in 1968. I still have both.

June 19, 2007, 08:00 AM
The first gun I shot was .32 Webly & Scott Revolver. I have no idea what happened to it. It was my brother's and he does not know where did it go. Probably rusted into its demise.

The first gun bought was a .32 Rossi Revolver, and someone stole that as WELL!:fire::fire:

Then I did not buy handgun for a while and focused on other weapons, until in 1992 I bought .357 King Cobra pair, in black 6" and SS 4". Now nobody is stealing them two from me, and sneaking out alive.:(

June 19, 2007, 09:05 AM
My first gun was a Sig P226 NSW Navy.

June 19, 2007, 09:10 AM
Polish .22lr bolt action trainer given to me by an uncle.

First gun I ever purchased... a Charter Arms .22lr semi auto pistol that looked like a Mauser Broomhandle... I cant remember the model. It was horrible...

Next was an Ithaca 37 16g... still have that one.

June 19, 2007, 09:12 AM

Marlin Glenfield Model 60 I got for Christmas at age 9

H&R single shot .410 I got for Christmas at age 10

There I go again, just half-way reading the thread titles! :o

You were apparently asking specifically about handguns, but it appeared under handguns/autoloaders.

Okay, my first non-autoloader handgun was a Dan Wesson Model 15-2 .357 Magnum with a 6" barrel. It was very nice but it locked up on me. After getting it running, I traded it towards a Taurus PT 92.

I still owned the DW when I bought my first autoloading handgun. It was an FIE Titan II in .380. It wasn't very refined in terms of fit and finish, but it actually gave decent service.

June 19, 2007, 02:49 PM

My Great Aunt gave it to me when I was 12.

Shot jackrabbits in high school and college and sold them for mink food for $.50 apiece. Long Rifles were too expensive at $.50 a box. At $.35 a box for Longs I could make enough money to keep me in gas and beer!!

June 19, 2007, 10:01 PM
A Springfield Armory TRP Operator with a full length rail. Sure I have used others, but this is the first one I have owned.

June 19, 2007, 10:33 PM
My very first gun was a gift from my Dad. A Ruger MKI. I still have it. I wouldn't be surprised if the round count was over 100,000 (we used to shoot alot in the old days).

The first centerfire gun (also from dad) was a Colt Government model. Series 80. It's been heavily modified, but I still have it.

The first gun I bought on my own (after turning 21) was a Taurus PT-99. Exceptional piece. Unfortunately, I traded it to my dad for something else and he subsequently traded it off on something else he liked.

My most interesting "first" is a gun my father bought for himself, kept it for 10 years, then gave it to his dad who subsequently gave it back to him. Hung on to it for a while, then gave it to me. So, I have this really pristine S&W 19-3 that was owned by my grandfather and my father.

June 19, 2007, 10:41 PM
My first was one of Taurus' first 380's that I bought NIB....thing was junk :barf: I sold it & than promptly put the money into my HK P7M8 that has been with me ever since.

June 19, 2007, 10:45 PM
Smith and Wesson Model 10 .38 special. Passed down. It shot like garbage but a fun shoot nonetheless.

June 19, 2007, 10:57 PM
S&W Military Police .38 special my dad bought used in 1932. Still puts rounds down range where I'm aiming. Best trigger in SA of any firearm I own. One of these days I ought to take it to a smith since it hasn't been to one in 80 years.

June 19, 2007, 11:03 PM
Glock 19. It's been 100% reliable since day one.

June 20, 2007, 12:26 AM
Well since this is the autoloader thread I'll name that one first.
Auto: Beretta 950 BS .25 acp (sold it years ago regretted it and bought one last week)
First gun of any kind: 16 guage Stebens double barrel. Got it from my uncle less than a year before he died, I was twelve.
First revolver: 3 inch model 13 Smith. Traded it and a model 21A .22lr for a 4 inch model 65, less than a week the 65 was gone and I bought my 13 back for more money. Will never part with it again.
First sworn duty gun: Glock 22 .40, sold me on autos but still could'nt sway from rotating Smiths.

June 20, 2007, 12:47 AM

For a handgun I bought a CZ 52 first.

June 20, 2007, 04:48 AM

Old Remington .22 pump rifle when I was 9. I have to get down to my parents house to get it. I think it's worth a lot of money now days. It was given to my dad by his dad, so it's got to be in the early 1900's

June 20, 2007, 11:08 PM
My first firearm was a Ruger Mark III 22/45. I bought it with the view of using it as a trainer for the 1911 platform.

June 20, 2007, 11:27 PM
Ranger .22 bolt action! which reminds me.... I need to post about this gun.
It is clip fed 7 shot. I think Dad bought it at Sears in the early 60's

June 21, 2007, 12:42 PM
Bought my first gun in 1970 right after I got out of the Army, a Marlin 336C 30-30. Beautiful rifle and I still have it.

First pistol, Stoeger Luger 22LR, jamomatic - got rid of it and got a Ruger MKI. Added a MKII and MKIII over the years.

Been through lots of guns over the years, most were good. The Ruger MKII, S&W Model 19 and Colt 1911 Series 70 are my favorites.

Not counting my Daisy B*B rifle, or my Crosman pellet rifle: a Ruger 357 mag Security Six in s.s., long gun a Rem 700 in 30.06. Still have them both. First real gun I ever got to use/shoot on my own, my Dad's Mossberg bolt 22.

June 21, 2007, 06:36 PM
My first gun was my dad's Winchester Model 56 .22 short-only rifle, which his uncle had bought for him in 1930, when he was 13. He taught me to shoot with that rifle, and for most of my life I have treated it with casual respect and affection, as a varmint gun and a can-killer.

Only this year, through the RimfireCentral forum, have I learned what a rare firearm it is, worth upwards of $800, I'm told. Not that I would ever sell it...but now I clean it more than once a year! :)

First handgun was a Smith Model 48 .22 Mag with the 8 3/8 barrel that I bought in Vermont when I was 22. Loved that gun. Sold it to buy a 10-speed Italian bicycle. Wish I hadn't.

June 21, 2007, 07:11 PM

I think I'm with alot of others out there who had a Ruger 10-22 as their first rifle. As far a handguns go, mine was a Beretta 92. I've had a couple since then, and usually one floats in and out of my posession often. I guess I'll always have a soft spot for the 92, kind of like your first love you know?

June 22, 2007, 12:12 PM
For my 12th. birthday (1957) my parents bought me a J.C. Higgins air rifle. The seals went within a few weeks. We sent it back and asked for a .22 J. C. Higgins in its place. That served well until I graduated college. The first shotgun (1959) was a savage 311 A double barrel 12, which I still use in SASS today. First rifle was a Remington 742 carbine in .308 (1961), that's still used now and then. First pistol was a colt huntsman .22 (1968).

Grandad bought me a Remington 512P for my 12th BD in 1948. First handgun was a S&W K-22, brand new for $60.00 in 1950 with first earnings from a part-time job. Still own and shoot both on a regular basis and they still pass for nearly new in condition.

June 23, 2007, 07:50 PM
A Remington single-shot .22 rifle. Hunted with it and could hit rabbits running. After I got my first Auto my accuracy dropped tremendously. For improving shooting skills there's nothing better than a single shot.

June 23, 2007, 07:54 PM

June 23, 2007, 11:01 PM
First Gun: .32 cal. handbuilt flintlock rifle. Curly Maple stock with a red stain and iron furniture. My dad bought it from from guy he worked with who bought it from the guy who made it. It's name is "Amanda"
First "Modern" rifle: Ruger 10/22 "Wal-Mart Special" when I turned 18.
First Centerfire Rifle: High Point Carbine (had lots of issues with it. Eventually worked them out and sold it.
First Pistol: Ruger MkII bought it on my 21st birthday.
First Centerfire pistol: Some .45ACP S&W Police Trade pistol. Ammo was too expensive for me so I sold it.

June 24, 2007, 12:09 AM
A BB rifle from my dad! (RIP):( I still have it.:D Now the first one that I purchased for myself was a Kel-Tec P-11. I liked it alot but sold it. Wish I would have kept it though. Might buy another one soon.

June 24, 2007, 12:25 AM
Ithaca M-66 SuperSingle 20 ga., (A lever action single shot shotgun.)

My son has it now.

First handgun. Smith & Wesson Model 19 "Combat Magnum" 357, 4" barrel.

Like an idiot I traded it off. :banghead:

June 24, 2007, 04:56 AM
My first gun was a Mosin-Nagant 1938 Carbine, 7.62x54r, that I bought cheap. I wanted something that would go bang, and it fits the bill. Kicks like a mule, doesn't feed well, and I can't hit crap with it, though.

My first pistol was a Sig P226 9mm. I was looking for a duty gun for security work, and the Sig felt right in my hand. I didn't want a Glock, or some other polymer gun; I wanted something with heft, something I could get my whole hand on. And the P226 is surely that. Ironically, I never had the opportunity to wear in on a job. Still glad I bought it though, especially since I got a used, factory refurbished one for a very good price.

June 26, 2007, 02:33 PM
First centerfire pistol - Glock 17 -- sold it when its 17rnd mags were $50 a peice :) -- of course, later they went up to $75+!

Ruger New Model Single Six. It was stolen about 15 years ago:fire: I really miss that gun.

June 26, 2007, 07:23 PM
First pistol I ever owned was a High Standard .22 target pistol I was given as a high school graduation gift.

First pistol I ever purchased was an FN roll marked High Power.

June 26, 2007, 08:16 PM
First gun, Daisy Red Rider, not sure what happened to it, and I didn't shoot my eye out with it. Second, Benjamin .22 pump up pellet rifle, still have it, still shoots, it's 45 years old now. First cartridge gun, .22 Caliber M512X Remington tube fed bolt action. Still have it, still a tack driver and has killed a 55 gallon drum full of squirrel, no doubt. First shotgun, JC Higgins pump .410, traded off. First handgun at age 16 Hawes .22 caliber single action with .22 mag cylinder. First center fire handgun, Ruger Security Six stainless 4" bought in 1978. Traded for a Blackhawk I still have in .357.

BTW, I've got a couple of M66 taurus revolvers, 4" nickel and 3" blued and love 'em, superb accuracy.

Technically, I might have lied. In 1974 I bought a CVA Colt '51 Navy replica. Not really a "center fire", though. Call it, first "large caliber" handgun.

It was when the 40 caliber first came out. The reviews hyped it up ssooooo much and made it out to be the best thing ever. So I went out and bought a 40 cal. taurus, it was a knock off of the Beretta 96. It was OK, I ended up trading it last year after keeping it around because it was my first gun, but then realized it just sat around in my gun safe and that is gun abuse. I don't miss it and learned a lot with it, it was and still is the only 40 caliber pistol I've ever owned and perfer the company of other calibers.

I was young and did not know any better. My first gun that I bought was a Desert Eagle in .357 Magnum. I traded it for a new West German SIG P220 about a month later.

But my first gun was a marlin .22 LR that my dad decreed was mine when I was 5 or 6 years old. I still have it and have since declared ownership or the .22 LR to my son.

I got a no-foolin' Daisy Red Rider BB gun when I was around 12.

I got a Rossi snub-nose .38 as a gift from a friend who found out I was interested in becoming a shooter;

And my first gun purchase was after I started looking for something that could do nightstand duty, carry duty, and not be too large to carry or too anemic a round to stop a goblin. I saw the Taurus P-111 and liked it, until I read this forum and TFL for opinions/experiences/reviews. I then discovered the Kel-Tec P11, which was okay out of the box, and had the potential to be a fantastic 9mm S/A with a little home 'smithing, thanks to the advice and direction from KTOG and Yzguy at www.1bad69.com/keltec .
That's one purchase I have NEVER regretted, and I've added 4 other KT handguns to the stable since that time.

Probably more than you wanted to know. :D

About 1959 I bought a RG .22 short revolver for $10.00. I was 10 years old. Literally wore it out shooting everything from rocks to bottles to sticks or whatever.

First handgun was a 22 H&R 6"barrel pull the pid & drop out cylinder in 1946. Cost $28, 50 cents a week on lay-a-way, when I was about 12 at O.O. Ruftys Hardware in Salisbury, NC. They didn't even ask my age, no parents were with me.

A turn of the century-ish A.H Fox Sterlingworth 12 guage SxS. Was (is) a great gun. Many a quail and pheasant have been dinner thanks to it.

It is a shame she breaches every time she fires now.
