Forend/arm thickness

I have a semi-inletted stock that I've got inletted for my Mauser action, but now I need to finish the rest... How thick is a "normal" gunstock's forend? Mine seems VERY thick (1.75") at the tip. Are there any good sites w/ patterns or schematics for basic/generic rifle stocks? Is there any general "rule" for how thick one should be or is it all about personal preference? How thick to you prefer the forend? Why?

Thanks!

Look at the guns in stores near you,

If you find one that really floats your boat, go home and make it that!

Or even easier, make it please you!

Because I am a big guy, feather weight doesn't do anything for me, there are probably more people that think feather weight is the cats meow.

Unless you are planning on peddling the rifle, make it for you.

If you are thinking of selling it at some point look around and go from there!

Sorry not much help.
