Okay, I never could get the poll for this up and running. Now I can. So, please vote and let us know what kind of handgun you carry more than any other.
Thanks,
David
P.S. I voted first; I carry a .32 Mag S&W revovler most. The poll will be open for 60 days. Act now while supplies last.

95% of the time I now carry a 5" Government model 1911. Either Colt Gun Site Pistol or series 80 Government or Kimber Warrior or CDP. Again all 5".
I am now setting up a FN Highpower. It is even more narrow than the 1911.
I no longer carry my favorite, SIG 228. Arthritis does not allow me, an old revolver guy the ability to hit in double action. It is not a strength thing, but a distance thing.
I don't care about caliber. If I choose good ammo, and do my job in the delivery dept, Any of the calibers I choose will or will not do their job. Ain't no guarantee's in a firefight, particularly when using a handgun.
MY BUG is one of my two 642's or my 638. (all airweights in 38spl. The 638 is not rated for +P.
All the pistols normally ride in a Milt Sparks VM II for CCW. For competition most often a Comp-Tac or a Wilson Combat and rarely a non locked Black hawk.

I carry a Glock 22. (For the newbies that's not a .22 !)
However, MrsTwigg prefers a S&W1911PD (Commander size.)
I was nice enough to break it in for her and will be soon switching to a full size S&W1911PD of my own. :D
Why ? I shoot the 1911 better than my Glock and the ballistics of the .45 ACP beat the .40 S&W.
(Short & Weak ? :neener: )
Don't see the point of the caliber choices unless you're undeceided on a caliber and while any gun is better than no gun, a self defense caliber needs to start with a "4".

I just switched up to a Kahr P45, was carrying a Taurus PT745 but the Kahr is about 2-3 ounces lighter. Sometimes I will carry my Kimber Ultra Carry .40 or Springfield XD40 Sub-compact, and rarely a Keltec P11. I also have a Taurus PT1911 but it is too heavy and large for summer carry.
The Kahr has become my favorite because of it's light weight, reliability, and the fact that it is in .45. I use a Bianchi Paddlelok with auto retention

I suppose that I should've voted 'small cal. semiauto' as my Keltec P32 is always either on my person or within arm's length.
But whenever I leave the house (and sometimes when I'm at home) it's accompanied by a 'large cal. semiauto', usually a .45 ACP and some variation on the 1911 theme.
I suppose that because it's so small and unobtrusive (and it's always in my pocket) I've come to regard it more like a 'proof of insurance' card or my multi-tool than as my actual CW. Not good.
Time to drive out to the club with a couple of boxes of ball and do some practice drills.

Well, no. I thought more folks would carry a 642 and the like (large caliber revolver, albeit in a small package). I also thought there would be more folks carrying 32/380 Keltecs (small caliber semi-autos). But it looks like most folks carry service caliber semi-autos more than they carry anything else. I guess I'm not surprised that the majority do that. I just thought the breakdown would be a little more evenly distributed.

For a CCW, Ruger DAO SP101 with 357 Speer 135gr. GDHP "short barrel".
In the Spring and Summer while walking my dog in the woods, the first 2 chambers have CCI shot shells...Lots of copperheads in these parts.
I generally carry my Bulldog .44Spl for CCW, as I am a Revolver man at heart, but the times they are a changing. I will be switching to a Ruger P345 for the Summer. The P345 fits my hand perfectly and I am well past the 250 to 300 rounds without a failure needed for me to trust it with my bacon. Rather than chance a problem with the Mag disconnect feature I have "Cleaned" beneath the rear sight eliminating any possibility of a FTF due to dry firing without a mag inserted or an improperly seated mag. I really like the feel of this Ruger, even more so than my HK USP .45 Compact or my Sig P220. :) If all goes well for the Summer it may very well replace the tried and true Bulldog .44Spl as my primary, but the Bulldog will still ride along as a BUG. :D

South Georgia in the summertime: Hot, humid, Hawaiian shirts (or the like) will probably get you into more trouble than they're worth.. :uhoh:
So, the only firearm I've found that is concealable for me, all the time, is my Seecamp LWS32..
Seven 32cal. "gold dots" aren't precisely "flying ashtrays", but much preferred over just harsh words..

Working professionals cannot carry a large pistol due to their size and limitations in an office environment. Just a thought but I would be interested in the occupations of most of these posters that carry the big full sized framed firearms.
BTW I carry a Kel-Tec P3AT (.380) 99% of the time as my glock is too bulky for suits, Kahr is too heavy for business casual, and a full sized pistol hurts like hell to sit with for long periods of time. And unfortunately the DA shoulder holster is not an option for most individuals.
Only one way to go and thats the biggest of the smalls for me. I feel a BG isnt going to be very hard to take down with some bleeding holes in his body (if that didnt stop him as it is) as I am no little guy myself :D

Don't see the point of the caliber choices unless you're undeceided on a caliber and while any gun is better than no gun, a self defense caliber needs to start with a "4".
I'm surprised that none of the 357mag carriers said anything.... Or 38 super, 38 special, 9x23, hmmm there are plenty of perfectly acceptable SD calibers that don't start with a 4. Of course, I've never heard of anyone carrying a 9x23 gun either.
It all goes back to "a 22 in your pocket is better than a 45 at home" and "better to hit with a 22 than miss with a 45". There's a million reasons to carry a smaller caliber.
What I don't get is the guys that think a 32 or even a 22mag is useless in defense. Now, 25acp and 22lr don't get to even participate in this discussion but the smaller cartridges are just fine if you can shoot them well. I know that I'm not going to stand around while anyone shoots anything at me. The owner of my local range carries a 32mag 5 shot snubbie loaded with FMJ non+p ammo. He doesn't need any more than that.
That said, I carry a Kimber Tactical Ultra. 45ACP. When that doesn't work out with my outfit, it's a NAA 22mag mini revolver. Thinking about getting a little bigger pocket gun though.

"9mm is considered large caliber?
I guess I usually carry a small large caliber semi-auto."
Yes, the 9mm is now considered large cal since the development of some pretty devastating ammo developed over the last four years. Not sure where you've been but the ballistics reports and countless articles on the effectiveness of the new defensive rounds clearly make the case. :neener:

I'm surprised that none of the 357mag carriers said anything
I'd say I carry my Taurus 651 (357mag) more than my Ruger P345, due to concealability. After careful study one evening of the size differential between my Bersa Thunder 380 and the Taurus 357, I decided that more pop was preferable to more rounds with less pop. They're all reliable. If I could wear a winter coat every day, the P345 would be #1 instead of #2, but the 357 is powerful, reliable and concealable.
