New Federal Attack on the 2nd Amendment!!

Alberto Gonzales has teamed up with New Jersey Senator Frank Lautenburg, to craft S1237. This bill was crafted by the Justice department. They are again using the war on terrorism as a reason to grab civil rights, only this time they are going after the 2nd Amendment! Wayne LaPierre, Executive Vice President of the NRA calls this bill the "broadest power grab ever proposed over the Right to Keep and Bear Arms." Please email or write your senators and congressmen to oppose this legislation as it has a serious chance to pass.

Imagine a list like the "no fly list" that bans certain folks from owning guns or ammo, and disallows their ability to challenge it in court or see the evidence against them because of "national security." It could happen to anyone! Thats not what the 2nd Amendment is about!! Thats not what our Constitution is about!!

You can see the NRA response at:

This has been posted before...it is an abomination.

I cannot understand why GW Bush keeps supporting this freakin' idiot (we already know Lautenberg is a terrorist to rights).
The only thing I can thing of...no matter how bad Bush screws up...Gonzales is worse.

Bush doesn't live in the real world. Remember, he doesn't read newspapers, he reads "news briefs."

Why would a justice department that so outwardly recognizes the individual right interpretation of the 2nd amendment, go so far as to craft legislation that so completely infringes upon it? I can't believe it. If I were this inconsistent at my measley job I would be fired in a week.

Let them do what they want. The next revolution needs a kick in the ass. The sooner the amnesty/slave trade bill gets passed, the sooner we all go bankrupt, and the sooner we learn the meaning of Viva la Revolucion!

Its incumbent upon us as stand up citizens to actually take some time and write our representatives, not just banter about it here. Do it for yourself and for future generations who would like to inherit the freedom our founding fathers worked so hard to preserve for us.

Note our friend Hillary is a cosponsor.
Even Obama, and Kuccinich wouldnt put their names on it.
The bill has been in the judiciary commitee since 04/27/07 and probably will never see the light of day.

Two birds with one stone,

Dear Senators,

Well it seems the comprehensive immigration bill is not dead as it should be. It must not be a piece of bad legislation; it must be a zombie, You folks need to find out how to put zombies down once and for all. There may be some instructions on Wikpedia.

This bill needs to go away and we need a bill that does one thing: *Seal the border, first and foremost.* No matter the financials. Appropriate the money, hire the personnel and get it done. Once that is completed we can have a rational national conversation about how to we identify/absorb/deport the illegals already here and figure out a sane immigration/guest worker program. Once the border is sealed we can afford to be compassionate again.
This is not a Republican/Democrat issue. This is a national security issue. I'll remind you again; You are Americans first and politicians second.

S1237: This proposal is outrageous and one of the most dangerous attempts at destroying the Bill of Rights that I have ever seen. You folks ought to thow that senile Lautenberg out on his ear for even proposing it and work harder at getting rid of the Attorney General, who is a moron. (Sorry about the invectives, but it's difficult to not become angry at what is going on in Washington on *both* sides of the aisle. Maybe it's not an invective if it's true.)

Mails' sent. Voinovich's site has a statement regarding his no-confidence in Gonzales. I mailed Brown too, since Dems hate anyone Bush puts in.

No need to worry about it. I'm sure that a "reasonable" compromise will be worked out.
It's for our own good.
You don't want terrorists to get guns do you?
If your not doing anything wrong....

That was Ashcroft. Gonzales takes the collective view of the 2nd.

govtrack indicates that this bill was introduced, however is not scheduled for debate. Which probably means that it's not going anywhere. If it does become scheduled for debate, I will definately write, email and phone my reps to express my disgust.

Imagine that. The NRA finally realizes that the Administration it has endorsed is actually anti Second Amendment. Amazing.

Not so - this is no coincidence. This news - of a bill that's very dangerous but so controversial that it'll never see the light of day - comes in the same week that the McCarthy mental health NICS bill went to the Senate after House approval. Methinks the NRA (which I've been a member of for 18 years, but soon to leave) is creating a diversion. The leadership realizes it f'd up, and it wants a) us to look at a far worse bill rather than their f' up compromise with McCarthy and Schumer*; b) wants us mad at some rabid anti-gun Senators instead of it; and c) HAS to be schilling for yet more donations.

Yeah, I'm cynical. It happens when reality kicks you in the head repeatedly. Like movie janitors who'd lose their jobs if people actually picked up after themselves (and who are, therefore, not really upset about cleaning spilled popcorn), the NRA leadership would largely be on the street if there was no gun control (and is thus not really upset about having gun control).

*I simply CANNOT believe that the NRA wouldn't automatically be opposed to ANY gun-related bill that Schumer and McCarthy are pushing. THAT'S THEIR FRIGGIN' JOB, TO STOP ANTI-GUN FIENDS LIKE SCHUMER AND McCARTHY!

I cannot understand why GW Bush keeps supporting this freakin' idiot
I don't understand why so many otherwise rational people keep supporting G W Bush. And are taking so long to recognize that GW Bush appointed him, he works for Bush, and that G W Bush and co are as much a part of the problem. As are Lautenberg - and the others in the "democratic" party.

Bush and co, like their "democratic" comrades are the frontmen for an agenda to dismantle everything in this country that is not in sync with the homogenization with the rest of the world. One piece at a time. The little nuggets they toss out for appeasement, and the mock combat with the "democratic" party is nothing more than a show. WWF.

The 2nd amendment is one of their major obstacles. they are going to continue to chip away at it unless we get them out of public office altogether. That should be the prioty at all costs; the alternative is going to cost us everything.
