Good evening.

I live in Eugene, Oregon, USA. About 30 minutes away I know of a hospitable abandoned rock pit (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=marcola,+or&ie=UTF8&ll=44.179988,-122.80009&spn=0.022559,0.040169&z=15&om=1) outside of the town of Marcola on BLM land often used for outdoor shooting (near the end of BLM road 16-1-10). There is also the McGowan Creek area (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=marcola,+or&ie=UTF8&ll=44.149819,-122.966537&spn=0.022571,0.040169&z=15&om=1) on the other side of Marcola. Does anyone from my part of town have other favorite spots?

Also, I am visiting the city of Salem and Silver Falls (http://www.oregonstateparks.org/park_211.php) state park next weekend. Does anyone know of good spots near those places?

Thank you!

McGowan's a alcoholic shooting gallery. I stayed far away from Mcgowan Creek when I lived down there.
I found some good places in the Rattlesnake Rd/Lost Creek area and up Fall Creek on the north side.

Sorry. My Salem area spot is top secret.

Thanks, Zeke.

Based on one visit to each, the rock pit seemed much better than McGowan to me as well.

McGowan had people driving too fast around mountain curves. McGowan had road signs shot up. Neither indication bode well for the responsibility of people there, and I'm not eager to be around irresponsible shooters.

Looking at the Oregon Gazetteer, I see no gravel pits listed. But east of the park looks best, lots of Forest Service roads.
