This was brought up in a nother thread....
You've all seen these in the Cabela's catalog or others.
Little machined tubes that allow you to shoot a smaller gauge in your shotgun. ANybody actually try these? Gotta range report?

I am also curious. I am concerned that, when you touch off that small shell in a big, wide barrel, you could have shot dancing all around the bore. Might make for real spoltchy patterns.
But thats only my weird thought processes. No actual experience.

I bought a set of Chambermates (28 gauge in a 12 gauge) on a whim last summer. They do work and my skeet scores didn't seem to suffer. Once in a while you get a shell that sounds hollow. They ejected Winchester AA reliably but not so with other shells that have a steel base (e.g. Challenger and Kents). The instructions specify only Remington STS or Winchester AA shells.
After I tried them and satisfied myself that they work I considered the basic folly of the things. I spent about $225USD to shoot shells that cost twice as much in a gun that is way overbore and overweight for the cartridge. If recoil is the problem I can load down the 12. I haven't touched the things since last summer.
Something about a fool and his money came to mind.

If you shoot competetive skeet, all four gauges, spend the money for Briley or Kolar full length tubes (Approx. $1200-1500/set).
The other sub gauge chamber inserts, of various gauges, do seem to work, and pattern surprisingly well. They will likely not hold up to the amount of shooting a competitve shooter would do.
Biggest question, is why?
