I collect old mil rifles, and I use a product called Mean Green to clean off nasty stocks. It is stronger than Orange Glo, but I don't let it soak into the wood. Just spray it on, wait 10 min. and wipe off.

How about Goo Gone? Is that safe on wood stocks?

I've wondered the same thing about citrus sprays. It would be nice to get that stinky cosmoline out of the stock of my SKS.

I have used Orange Glow and Simple Green for cleaning goop and gunk off Military stocks prior to refinishing.

Simple Green is more cost effective.

I use a product called Strip-Eze for removing the old finish and stain once the dirt and goop are cleaned off.
