I thought shotguns were supposed to be noisy???... Oh, the FORE-END! OK, I was wondering... :D
Why is it noisy? Does the noise come from the action arms, or from the fore-end banging against the magazine tube, or from some sort of rotation as it's operated? Is it a scraping noise, or a clicking noise, or a banging noise as the fore-end hits the receiver on the way back (or the magazine cap on the way forward)? Hard to give advice without knowing more details.

You know you are supposed to *hold* the forearm while shooting a Mossy 500, right?:p
Keeps mine quiet.

Only slightly more serious, it occurs to me you may not mean while shooting, but while simply carrying it about.
You won't make it quiet. It is built very loose, and will rattle. I've never actually paid any attention to it, since it is exactly as I expected it to be.

I don't know if you are going to make it quiet. A friend of mine just flat hates his. He says he can't sneak up on anything because the darn thing is always rattling! I told him to get an 870:D

shim the inside of the pump tube.

Pretend you are a clump of bamboo in the wind while you are sneaking up on stuff. *(zen approach).

Ithaca's are quiet... Why did you buy a noisy shotgun? Always reminds me of somebody that buys a Hyundai and complains that it feels like a tin can when they close the doors... DUH!!! You got what you paid for. BUT...
If you don't want to live with it, you can try to weld the fore-end tube to the action arms. This takes out a good bit of the rattle but voids any warranties. It might also make your gun unreliable if you do it at the wrong angle. Mossberg tolerances are so loose that they might require the rattle to work well. All shotguns rattle. Remingtons are better than Moisy's but not as good as an Ithaca... Just my plug.

the rattle comes from the inside of the pumphandle tube (which is significantly oversized) smacking the mag tube. shimming it with a hard plastic, such as teflon would fix the problem.
