Ok sorry for the dramatics, but I saw this on Gunbroker:

http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=9850767

I swear to god it looks like someone has grafted a MAC11 long barrel 9mm onto a FAL lower reciever and FCG...

And then mod'd it to take a 71 round drum of a type I'm not familiar with.

I just...

I mean...

wow.

They say it's a "Sumni" drum, but it looks to me like a Suomi drum (from the Finnish WWII-era submachinegun).

Looks funky-cool. I wonder how much it weighs?

Shouldn't have a lot of recoil, with that FAL back end grafted on there...

Ok..I've toyed with the idea of a FAL in .45 Auto, but that thing is UGLY!!!

I see it is also proudly manufactured in the south! Where else would you keep a horse behind a chain link fence?:D

I was looking at the ad and it says that there is no reserve, so does that mean some one can buy it for 2 dollars? It does look ugly but cool at the same time.

Seriously, compared to a Camp Carbine, Hi-Point carbine, 9mm AR, and Calico, that...thing...really doesn't look bad (assuming it works). It should handle pretty well, and the sights don't look bad. The biggest question is, what do you need a $2600 9mm carbine for?

roscoe - I think you're lookin' at the manufacturer in that photo. :)

Taurus - no, because they set a starting bid.

Welcome to the HighRoad!

Before others say it, you may want to turn the caps lock key off... using caps online is usually considered 'shouting'.

Maybe you _are_ shouting, in which case, disregard this message. ;)

How about this as a 45 ACP/FAL combo? Definitely a bit more stylin'. Uses M3 or 1927 mags...assume a Thompson drum could be made to work.

I'm looking for Fal parts kits and I see a perfectly good Imbel lower butchered!

I kind of like it, but I would have at least put on some new furniture and parkerized it.

Experimental guns are the stuph you see in Museums. We may laugh now, but will marvel at it in time as it shows that the ingenuity of the American mind has not been dimmed by PC, rap, Clintonism and light beer.

There was a dealer/gunsmith in Birmingham that specialized in all things Mauser, pistols and rifles. He had a HUGE display showing the history of the rifles and pistols from across the world. His display for China had numerous examples of hand made Mauser carbines and C96 pistols that were hammered out to fight the Japanese in Manchuria. They were rough but he said that most of them were well within acceptable specs to be operable weapons. The C96 was neat because he had an original cutaway model that served as the pattern to some metal shop gunsmith.

And, lord help me, I want one of those carbines.

I don't remember, he worked out of his home doing mostly gunsmithing/restoration on C96 and its variants. He was in Birmingham and was usually at the Gun Collector's shows at the Birmingham/Jefferson Civic Center. His displays were amazingly informative. The Chinese hand made examples were interesting and his caption above these guns was "Why Gun Control Will Never Work". It proceeded to explain the origin of the guns and gave details on techniques used by Chinese metalsmiths to make them. Oh, they had tool marks and such, but to think that the C96 could be HAND CRAFTED with minimal machining!! It was an experience.:D

He usually had an Imperial German flag over his tables and was easily found from across the exhibition hall. His prices were always right, too.
