Tax cut gun?

Since I only have one child and the qualifying income, I get $400 soon. The wife has said I can spend no more than $500 on my tax cut toy. Here are the choices, vote and/or make a case for an alternate August purchase because I cannot decide.
Please stick to the $500 limit because creative financing, selling off other guns, saving for the $900-1200 P7M8 or other such thing is not going to happen as I am in a "use it or lose it" situation with the cash.

Hehe, could always get an oddball gun. Those FN FNP-9s aren't too common. They're around $485 I think.

First, I don't understand why you are getting a tax cut for having a kid and people that choose not to have kids have to pay school tax.
Anyway, I think you need every penny coming to you for that kid! You better start saving for his college or he won't be going! Buying guns should not take away from money your child needs. Your wife is right to only give you a small handout for guns.
That being said, get a cheap .22 pistol. Ammo won't cost more than a few bucks each time you go shooting and it is the best way to get better with a pistol.

Firestar--
Don't you know, we parents vote and that's how it happens to you childless types. With the mortgage interest deduction you are helping to pay my mortgage too if you live in an apartment.:scrutiny: BTW, my son is only two and he's projected for private school by mom, (we're leftist intolerant).:D
College will take care of itself and the $500 won't be missed or I wouldn't be getting it, (it's really the Garand restorations that bug her financial sense: "Leave it as an original it's worth more.") These things are always a deal dontcha know? I get the tax return, she gets the proceeds off the sale of our "third" car that neither of us drive anymore.
PS. My three choices are up there because 9mm is my minimum round personally, (though the missus has a .25ACP and a .32 Auto). I only have firearms around my part of the safe that I'd use for self-defense in my giant sized mitts.:D

How about volumn?
If you can talk the dealer into a discount, you should be able to get a dozen Ravens for $500... :)

$500 ought to pay for a 2 day class and the accompanying ammo. Nearly all of us have enough exotic machinery floatin' around.

Boats,
Sorry about being an A$$. I was reading more into your post than there probably was. I know some people that will buy guns (or other stuff) instead of providing for their kids and I don't agree with that. It was not my place to assume you are the type of guy that would do that. Sometimes the people we know color our view of what others do even if there is no relation.
P.S., I don't live in an apartment anymore because of the tax benifits for a homeowner. I couldn't stand to see all my money go down the drain like that anymore. I like people but I don't want to live on top of them.:D
As for a gun for less than $500, take a look at a Beretta 92. They are a good deal used, I have seen them for as low as $350, they shoot the inexpensive 9mm round and there are TONS of aftermarket accessories for them. Hi caps are reasonable also.
You will get more bang for you buck with a nice used gun than with a cheaper new one. There is no shortage of used guns that have almost no use on them. I think some people buy a gun and fire a box of ammo through it and then later sell it.

Firestar, your complaint is reasonable: we're giving tax cut refunds to people who don't pay taxes, so why not give child tax refunds to the childless?
Back on topic: I'd go for the wheelgun.

Get a used Glock 17, preferably a GenII police refurb. They're cheap and it will last forever.(Or until the plastic melts ;) ) I love my 1911s too, but you need a little darkside conversion in your life.

I voted for the CZ 85B because I assumed this will be your toy(range) gun.
I'd get two RAP 401s (<$250 each) for CCW purpose and car/motorcycle gun.

Off the top I was thinking 686, then saw the Ruger so I voted for that.

Among those three, I voted for the GP-100.
Revolvers just don't always get the attention they deserve, and the GP is a great gun!
With $500 to spend, you should have plenty of money left for ammo and accessories.
Good luck

The wife has said I can spend no more than $500 on my tax cut toy.
Personally, I'd skip the gun and get a divorce.
