Which Ruger GP100?

There is about a $50 dollar difference between the carbon steel and the stainless model. Is one preferable over the other? Should I care? Also does anyone have a recommendation for a regular scabbard holster for the 4 inch GP 100?

I have never been a big fan of Ruger's bluing, it lacks the luster and depth of S&W or Colt bluing jobs. Ruger does a very good job with their stainless finishes, so I would pick a stainless GP-100. Wait a minute, I did buy one like that, many years ago. It has been shot a lot and is still as nice as the day I bought it.

Another vote for stainless. Easier to maintain and looks better too.
All that and you can't bead blast the blued finish if you want to!

Stainless. You know it looks better anyway.

I bought the stainless, 4" model. It is great to shoot. I wish that I could find a way to carry it concealed, but for me, it is just too big.
I used to have a S&W 586 with a 6" barrel. It was the best shooting gun that I had ever owned at that time. The GP100 is different, but after I got used to it, I think that I like it better than the Smith.

I have a 4" blued GP100 and I LIKE the way it looks, so there! :neener:
Soon it will be sporting a Lett hybrid grip, which will only make it look even nicer.
Of course, the guys who mentioned the benefits of stainless are absolutely right. In fact, I had a 6" stainless but sold it to buy my S&W 586, which is also BLUED. :D

Depends on the intended purpose of the revolver. For target work, especially 50 yards or more, the 8 3/8" barrel is going to give you a much better sight radius and therefore, better practical accuracy. For informal shooting and packing in the field, the 6 inch barrel is a much handier package.
