Problem with a Bersa decocker

I'm hoping I can get more help here than on another forum. I just bought a Bersa THunder 380CC for my wife. It seemed like the perfect blend of size, weight and features. One of the things I like the best for her was the decocker, giving her the advantage of 9 rounds and the heavy trigger pull of a double action.

However, after getting the gun home, I found that the decocker does not work properly. When I push the lever down, it does not decock. If I push it down a second time, it will decock. Or, on the first time, if I leave it down and take a small screw driver and pry the lever just a bit away from the frame, it will decock. Can anyone help? It sounds like they have pretty good customer service and a great warranty, but I'd sure hate to ship off a new gun if I could make a simple fix myself.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Doesn't look like many people out there have experience with the Bersa!

You'd probably have better luck posting your problem at the Bersa forum: http://bersatalk.com/default.aspx

Edited to ad: Nevermind - I see you already did! TX1911fan, I hope you get things straightened out with your Bersa.

I had 1 but sold it to my mom - I forget exactly the mechanics of the gun.

WIth the mag safety, did U insert the mag and then try to decock?

...

Give your gun dealer, where you bought it a call, and ask them if there are any local "Authorized Gunsmith's" (for that make of gun) near by, that you can take to and have them fix it under warranty. One way or another, unless it is a "lubrication" issue, needs some juice there, you're gonna be without it for some 2 weeks, give for take..

Well we went out to try the Bersa, and it's a pretty sweet little gun. My wife really likes it. After about 25 rounds, the decocker started to work just like a charm. Maybe there was a part that needed to be rattled into place. I'll make sure we get another 200 or so rounds through it before I trust that the problem is fixed, but not too worried.

On an even better note, this is the first time my wife has shot the gun, or has really spent a lot of time shooting, so I decided to see how she would score on the CHL target. With 50 rounds (40 at 7 yds, 10 at 15 yds), she scored a 203 out of a possible 250. Normally, she would shoot 20 rounds at 3 yds, 20 rounds at 7 ydsa nd 10 rounds at 15 yds, so I expect that her score would have been even better. She only needs a 175 to qualify, so she is no longer worried about the qualification part of the class.
