Springfield did conversions apparently to make weapons into 10mm's in the early 90's. Slide is marked Linkless.
They violated a patent and were forced to stop.

I have a chance to buy such a pistol, mint shape, 2-tone, custom upgrades.

Does anyone know about the Linkless? Ballpark value?

Thanks

The Springfield Linkless 10mm uses a Peters Stahl-like system, which usually works pretty well. (The HK USP uses a similar linkless arrangement.)

Last one I saw used was around $500. Not a very common critter. I'd get one, just to have a 1911 in 10mm.

Wasn't this thing called the Omega? Or was that a different gun. You could also swap out barrels between 10mm, .45 ACP, 9mm, and .38 Super (I think).

I've got an Omega in 10mm. Great gun, except for the occassional case in the face. It did come in 9mm, .38Super, 10mm, and .45 ACP in the US. (Upper was made by Peters Stahl mated to a Springfield 1911 frame.) PS is still around and still manufactures the linkless (basically the modified Browning action almost everybody is using). It is available in 11 or 13 calibers (barrels).

The ideal behind the Omega was that the frame AND slide would be able to handle any of the 4 calibers with just a swap of the barrel, recoil spring, and mag. To get around the difference in case head size, the PS upper had a couple of ways to adjust manually or automatically the extractor system. One way was to simply have dual spring loaded extractors, the left one not grabbing as much as the right allowing it (in theory) to release first when the case hits the ejector. The other was a Allen hex head cross bolt that adjusts the extractor in and out when switching calibers.

Another variation included a hex bolt to retain the recoil spring instead of a regular plug and 5" and 6" barrel/slide.

IIRC, McMillan had carried the line after Springfield dropped it (again IIRC due to lack of sales) and called it the Wolverine.

Anyone know the current value of one today?

Were they built as complete guns or conversions?

Thanks again for any info!

When sold as the Omega, the PS upper system was sold as a complete gun with a Springfield lower. IIRC, the Wolverines were also complete. When I got my 10mm in the early '90's it went for $600 (didn't haggle). If you check Guns America (http://www.gunsamerica.com/), they usually have an Omega or to for sale if you want to check current pricing. Since the guns have long been discontinued, you'll rarely see any NIB.
