My brothers' old junk guns

It looks like my parents (mom 89, and dad now 90) will be going to assisted living, as soon as we can arrange it.

Today, my mother mentioned two guns that have been in the basement for decades. One is a junk Llama .45 from the 1960's, and the other is some sort of hunting rifle. I don't think I've ever even seen it.

Anywho, I'm sure that after decades hidden above the ductwork in the basement that the guns are rusty at best.

I've given some thought about holding on to them until Milwaukee does the next "gun buyback" program, but have no idea when that will be, as the one last year was a dismal failure. (Hey, anti's: :neener: )

So, any suggestions?

Wait and see - you might have two diamonds in the rough.

I would say not to do that buy back program, I dont ever see any good that could come of one of those things for the 2a movement.
One person by themselves is nothing, but what if you "inspire" someone else and the same happens going along?
Not good.
These are our rights, we should not be wrongly, unconstitutionaly legislated and guilted and associatted into criminals.
I say anything but the buy back program.

I have shot my dad's Llama .45 numerous times and it shoots much better than you'd expect.

If they have been there that long, they are "off paper" but legally owned.

'Nuff said.

Instead of gun by-backs they should have gun trades. Then no one can complain about illegitimate paperwork. :)

Suggestions for what???

Take the wood and plastic parts off, and telescope if the rifle is so equipped, throw the guns in a large capped PVC tube and fill the tube with good non synthetic motor oil.
Let the guns soak for a week or two, take them out and clean them well.
They should come back to enough life to still be somewhat useable unless pitting has eaten enough material away to make the guns unsafe.

Heavy Metal Hero, a friend of mine likes to buy inexpensive guns and surprise his friends with how well the guns can perform.

He has a Charles Daly .45, a Hi-Point, and a Llama .45, amongst other guns.

His gunsmith tweaked that Llama to the point where my friend can shoot that pistol as well as any more expensive brand.

But I remember shooting my brother's Llama back in the early 1970's. It wasn't good.

I guess I'll see what these guns look like. They're still my brothers' guns, not mine, so I'll ask my brothers what they'd like me to do with them.

OTOH, my next-oldest brother has some really fine guns from the 1960's, and he knows their value. Dang!

Even if it's utter garbage - sell any functioning internals to Numrich or someone like that. Keep the rusted-over receiver and barrel for 'buy backs'. Sell every good piece you can find... might be someone needing that part. Let the Brady's keep the 'scary part'.

Every gun that the antis get in a buy back scheme is a victory for their cause. Never give the enemies of the Constitution a victory. Take the guns, clean them up and try shooting them. If you don't like them, trade them in for something better suited to your tastes. Never support any buy back.

Clean them and shoot them. By the way Llama 45's are not crap, they are good shooters.

if they really are junk and nobody in the family wants them for sentimental reasons you could always sell them to a gunshop and put the proceeds twoards a gun you do want.
