Need help making a decision on a S&W 629

Hey everyone, I have an opportunity to pick up a S&W 629 8 3\8" .44 mag, pre-lock, no box or papers. Is this a good gun and good find for $500?? I think I want it but don't know that much about this particular gun.

Hard to say! One needs to see, touch and feel to answer that question.

Condition is a very large factor in used guns.

It's a great gun! The price is in the ballpark, but it can vary depending on what dash number it is. The no-dash 629s are the priciest and $500 would be very good for one of those. If it is a later model with MIM parts (did they even make an 8 3/8" w/MIM?) $500 might be a bit high.
