Anyone know of a site or reference that compiles gun laws from around the world? what can you own? what can you bring in to the country? what can you carry? how about knives? etc...

Or any listing of a portion of the world would be nice, too (e.g. Latin America, or Europe).

Thinking of doing some long term travelling, not sure where yet,and I'm pretty sure that I have to leave everything behind, but I don't want to leave everything behind if I don't have to.

I would have to just guess that any weopon that you wanted to carry or use(outside of big game hunting) outside of U.S. borders would be a big no go:(

Tell my what you might want to bring along and I'll check if it's legal in Germany.

I can tell you straight away that the following items are definitely illegal:

1.) any type of firearms (that is, for a non-permit-holding foreigner)

2.) balisong

3.) flexible metal baton (aren't they called steel rods?)

4.) blades that are opened by a spring (unless they open in an arc like normal folding knives) or by gravity

5.) nunchucks

You can carry "normal" knives (though I think there are some size limitations), solid collapsible batons (such as an ASP), tonfas, palm-sticks/kubotans and some more which I can't think of right now.

Trooper
