Thanks for all the replies. I've got some books to order. Our house is beginning to be less of a disaster zone, and the little bastard is sleeping most of the night.

That little guy is pretty smart. Actually, for an animal just 8 weeks old, he's AMAZINGLY smart. It's become increasingly important to make sure we're smarter than he is.

For example... He looked like he needed to pee, so my wife said, "Go potty!" which to a human means "let's go outside." To a smart little dog who has already learned to pee when he's told, it means "Pee here and now!" So he peed on the floor, right on command!:D

We learned to separate the command: "Let's go out!" from "Go potty!"

("Potty" is my wife's idea. I guess it's good to have a kid-safe command. If it were up to me, I'd probably have made the command "Take a piss, Gus!")

Here are some more pictures.

He's already getting socialized pretty well with our older dog.

Gus knows what he wants, and tries to tell us.

I think he'll hunt.

He's NOT shy.

"Go Potty"?

I don't think that I have ever had to teach a dog to take a leak.

(Nice looking pup.)

He lives indoors with us.

I have my other dog trained to run outside, pee nearby, and come back in, on command, so I don't have to walk her on a leash every time she goes out front, or wait forever for her to decide what to do. Works out well, especially when I'm about to go to bed and I want to make sure she won't be waking me up at 2AM. I just open the front door, and she runs out and drains on command.:D

Oh yeah... She only does that in the dark, so I don't get busted for violating city leash laws. When it's light out, she waits for the leash.

Dogs are amazingly trainable.

We always trained our dogs that way. Specific area and a command and they'd do their thing (unless sick or something).

Is he a Vizsla?

Very cute.

My Brittany pees on command. Not as reliably as could be desired, but that's dogs.

A Vizsla he is.

First - Great looking pup! Second, re: potty command . . . I have always trained my dogs (hunting & otherwise) to do their duty on command . . . eliminates sudden trip stops shortly after the trips start. "Outside" gets them to & thru the door; "Get done" delivers the next expectation & covers all aspects of elimination. I'd watch them as a pup & as soon as they "assumed the position," I'd command "Get done," then praise them after they finished. Always worked for me.

My GSD would bring his leash when he had to go out. We didn't teach him that he just started doing it. If you ignorded him though, he would start shaking it.... Belive you me, if he caught you with the metal clip, boy would that sting.

Smart dog! (and we think that WE"RE the superior species!). Dogs CAN be trained; so can their owners . . . subtle little rascals, aren't they? Fortunately though, dogs view us as "one of their pack." Cats view us as "servants."

I believe cats view us a potential prey they just haven't figured out how to get the job done yet.

Like your Pit also. It looks just about as fierce as ours is. Ours is named Fluffy.
