I need one that has upgraded sight old eye won;t cut the stock 1911 sights
I am leaning for the springfield seem I check the gun and seem tighter then the taurus but both are made in brazil.
I yet to handle a RIA but read good reviews on the gun.

I have heard nothing but GOOD things about the TAURUS 1911. They feel great and is based on the standard 1911 platform. This being said I own and LOVE 3 SpringField 1911's. Get them before everyone hears about them, I think the price has already gone up $40.00 on them since last month.

Ya, the Taurus 1911 has made internet fame and since then the price has been going up a lot!

They are a good 1911 platform with a lot of nice custom features already on the gun.

Buy the Springfield. Don't waste your money on the Second choice and the third is not as good as the second.

Springfield -- because I wouldn't recommend a pistol I wouldn't buy myself (I won't buy another Taurus) and I just don't have enought first hand experience w/ RIA.

I'd say SA or SW if you can. I've been really impressed with my SW1911.

Springfield loaded if you want a gun with lots of features.
Springfield Mil-Spec if you want a GI style gun with better sights.
Springfield GI or RIA if you want a full on GI look gun.

Tauruses I've seen at the shop have all had major fit issues, usually with the thumb and or grip safeties being installed, but nowhere close to fitted.

Taurus or SA in my opinion. I have the PT1911 and it's a great gun. Got mine on a steal for under $500 last year and I've had zero issues so far. But I've shot some Springfield's as well, both (if not all 3) would probably suit you well.

Another vote for the Springfield! I bought the Mil-Spec a little over a year ago and am very happy with it. It is very accurate and is easily upgradable.

I vote for the springfield. I'm a big Kimber fan when it comes to 1911's but springfield is my second choice

I perfer Springfield Armory 1911s.

But for the price, Taurus is hard to beat.

Springfield gets the nod here as well. If you want a no-frills or a good base gun get the Mil-Spec. That is what I did. It is now back at the Custom Shop to finish it's transformation.

Springfield Mil-Spec: not the GI though, as the GI has small sights.

I just went and did it today and purcased a 1911 mil-spec springfield 45 cal.seem the decision was tuff to make due only reason was I also held a real nice taurus 1911 side by side. The Taurus was super nice and tight as a drum had a lot of extra options ,seem it was the best one I seen so far on display.
The SA had the upgraded barrel and bushing up graded sights and like the dealer said the warranty it the best there is no questions asked don't even has to pay the shipping springfield takes care of it all the way..
The price was $599.00 for the SA and the taurus was $615.00 just could not see spending the extra $$ bucks for the taurus, hope I made the right choice

Is the serial # prefix on your gun "N" or "NM"?

Nm Are On The Gun
I seem to recall hearing somewhere that the "NM" prefix pistols were assembled in Springfield's Custom Shop.

You can go to the 1911 forum board or the M1911 forum and talk to those who own these weapons first hand...of the ones mentioned think the Springfield is the better gun...but I just bought a Les Baer 1700 and a NightHawk Talon Bob-Tail commander size gun 2800 and could not be happier with both. Recoil is next to nothing with 185grain JHPs...very pleasant shooters both. Blessings.

You will like the MilSpec. I've shot my son's. Nice pistol. I have the PT1911 ($489 about 4 weeks ago). Nice gun also. Does a very nice group at 15 yards.

Why Springfield over the others? I can understand Taurus as they are not the greatest fame for quality ... though alot of value, but why is Springfield the better choice? Has the company won the state/national 1911 competitions or something that I am not aware of?

Nm Are On The Gun
I seem to recall hearing somewhere that the "NM" prefix pistols were assembled in Springfield's Custom Shop.

The NM guns are not built in the Custom Shop, but on the same line as the TRP. They come with a stainless bushing, stainless one piece barrel and undercut front sight. I picked one up LNIB a couple of months ago for $366.

It is now on its second trip to the Custom Shop. First time there it had the delta hammer and S&A beavertail grip safety installed. Now it is there to have a 10-8 Performance rear sight and trigger installed, as well as 4.5# trigger job and an extneded thumb safety. I specifically bought this gun as a base.:D

comparing RIA to taurus is okay. but putting springfield in the same category? thats a little insulting. go with the springfield :)
