I am contemplating making a bulk order of some russian 7.62X39 steel case ammo. What I'm looking to buy is the laquered cased stuff as opposed to the zinc plated (the zinc plated cases cost more).

Has anyone had any rusting issues with the laquered ammo rusting while in storage?

I'd suspect you would have no problems if you keep the ammo where you keep your wool suits. That's where I keep mine...

I've never had the lacquered stuff rust in storage. I cannot say the same for the Wolf polymer-coated ammo.

Rust depends on storage conditions.
If you buy a couple of air-tight steel US ammo cans and store the ammo in those, you should have no problems.

Thats what I do for mine. Throw in a couple of bags of desiccant bags and change them every once in a while and you be fine. Never ever had a problem with corrosion on any ammo apart from some stuff from the 1930s and 1920s.

I have some stored in a shed in FL. Some has been there for 3 or 4 years. No rust.

I have shot rusty steel case ammunitions through select fire AKM rifles.
There were no problems there either.
Best thing about AK type rifles is they just continue to work right up to the point they begin to shake themselves apart.

Policing up empties at the range and seeing the effects of extended outdoor exposure I can say this.

The zinc plated "silver" types turn white from corrosion fairly quickly. The new Wolf polymer coated might as well not be, since they rust quickly.

The old fashioned green laquer type have more rust on the insides than they do the outsides even after quite a while laying out in the weather.

YMMV
