I'm trying to put together a pig hunt in the Santa Barbara area durring the month of August. If anyone is interested let me know. The guide is on vacation so I don't know pricing or dates yet but wanted to schedule it for one of the weekends in August.

Please contact me if you might be interested and dates you'd be available.

There are wild pigs in 46 of the 48 counties in CA. That's a bit deceiving, though, since our counties can be enormous land areas, and "some" doesn't mean "enough to hunt." Here's a 10-year map of pig takes:

$15 tags are required, but it's open season all year. We have few bugs and little humidity by your standards, though it can get awfully hot in places!

Also, the Tejon Pass area is prime pig territory, El Tejon.:D

You may want to check that 3 rivers. Knifing a pig isn't legal in CA.

From the CA DFG

LEGAL METHODS OF TAKE: The following methods can be used for hunting wild pigs: (1) rifles and handguns using centerfire cartridges with soft point or expanding bullets; (2) muzzleloading rifles of at least .40 caliber; (3) shotguns capable of holding no more than three shells and firing single slugs; and (4) archery equipment and crossbows (see Section 354, California Code of Regulations, for details). Spears, knives and other methods not specified in Sections 353 and 354 of the hunting regulations ARE NOT allowed for hunting wild pigs in California.

In looking at the map of pig kills, the most pigs are taken in areas nearest the largest population ares of California. This is interesting(at least to me). Is it that pigs like the same areas as humans or are there just more people hunting pigs?
