Springfield XD 10MM!!!

June 29, 2007, 03:32 PM
Sorry to get you all excited, but I wanted to get your attention.

I feel that Springfield is our best bet on getting one more 10MM platform out.

I've written to SA in the past BEGGING them to produce a 10MM XD.

Can I get some help here?

Maybe, just maybe, if enough of us write in, we can get them to do it.

That's what I've been preaching since the first day I got my hands on an XD. They NEED to make a 10mm out of the .45 platform and have it hold like 16+1!!! I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

June 29, 2007, 04:35 PM
hell yes! a quality 10mm for less then 500 bucks!

June 29, 2007, 04:39 PM
I'd be very interested in a 10mm XD as well, someone setup a petition (http://www.petitiononline.com/XD10mm/petition.html) already.

June 29, 2007, 04:43 PM
I'd sign a petition. Maybe we should do a paper version?

June 29, 2007, 04:44 PM
I'm getting a stiff one.... drink that is.

June 29, 2007, 04:53 PM
So, have all of you written a letter or sent an E-mail to Springfield armory?

June 29, 2007, 04:55 PM
I'd be willing to do some investigating and setup a quick website for coordinating paper / email / Springfield contact.

A friend and I where just talking about this very thing. I would buy one in a second. He said he would like on as well.
The grips on the Glock are just to darn big. The XD would be perfect.

June 29, 2007, 06:32 PM
Dude, I should delete this thread and ban you out of spite.

Mike :D

PS Needless to say, yes I think that would be one great idea. You suck.

PPS XD 10mm tactical 5" barrel...Nnnnnnnnnnnrrrrrrrrrrgggggg

June 29, 2007, 11:45 PM
Or even a XD10MM Compact, like the .45.

That might get me to switch from the .45 to the 10mm platform. With the recent price increases, it isn't like it would be THAT much more.

June 30, 2007, 12:48 AM
the 45 isn't quite a 10mm but www.doubletapammo.com gets us close with their hot acp loads until springfield pulls through...

An XD10 on the tactical frame would be sweet though wouldn't it!

June 30, 2007, 12:58 AM
E-mail sent. I would love to get into the world of 10mm and I can think of no better way than a XD.

June 30, 2007, 01:21 AM
A 10mm XD is the only other format I would consider for the caliber. I said that the GLOCK 20 is enough, and it is very great IMHO , but I would surely buy an XD in 10mm, NO DOUBT :D!!! Let's petition Springfield.

XD in 10mm!?
Well crap!
Just when I thought I had leveled off as far as reloading.
Time to search 10mm dies.
I might be a gun nutů:D

June 30, 2007, 09:27 AM
I've handloaded a couple of hundred 10mm cartridges and am itching to try them out.

Problem is, I don't own a 10mm handgun.

If Springfield does make a 10mm version of the XD, I'd definitely consider it, as I currently have an XD-40 Tactical that I would never, ever part with.

(As an aside, I think the CZ 97B would also make a perfect platform for the 10mm cartridge.)

June 30, 2007, 03:02 PM
Damnit, you got me all excited when I seen the thread title.

A 10MM Springer XD would definitely be a jem. I'd buy one in a heartbeat!

Email sent to Springer.

June 30, 2007, 06:31 PM
I'm with the ban and lock group. The thread title is just cruel. ;)

June 30, 2007, 07:37 PM
Email sent.

Though I'm still going to make a 10mm conversion for a Ruger P-90.

June 30, 2007, 07:38 PM
I would buy one!

July 1, 2007, 01:35 AM
Damn it....I got wood and no place to put it...bastad!:cuss:
I'd buy one.
Already own the SC.40, Tactical.40, and Compact.45....one more surely wouldn't lead to divorce.

Oh, you are such a tease.

July 1, 2007, 07:41 PM
I've personally tried it... 16 rounds of 10mm wil fit comfortably in a .45 XD magazine....

July 1, 2007, 08:07 PM

Does this mean that someone could make an aftermarket slide for an XD45, allowing 10mm?

Sounds like it to me. :)

That'd be a really nice idea.

I'm also waiting for the Sig P220 in 10mm. Sooner or later, they'll see the light. :)

July 2, 2007, 09:52 AM
What the hell,
I have sent an E-mail to Springfield too.

July 2, 2007, 11:12 AM
So what does it take to make a .45 into a 10mm? Take a .45ACP barrel blank and ream it out to the correct bore for a 10mm? Different recoil spring? Or a whole new slide?

July 2, 2007, 11:30 AM
Problem with converting a .45 to 10mm is the breechface and extractor are slightly different (smaller diameter case and all).

So can one take a .40 slide and slap it on a .45 frame? All you have to do to convert a .40 is have the chamber recut and put on a heavier recoil spring (but you have to do this in a .40 pistol that can handle the longer cartridge ... so most .40 pistols won't work unless they were based on a .45 pistol. This is why its pretty easy to convert .40 1911s to 10mm)

July 2, 2007, 01:03 PM
I believe the slide on the .40S&W is narrower than the slide for the .45ACP variant, so that would be a no-go.

July 2, 2007, 01:07 PM
Okay, I've been thinking about this thread on and off all weekend. I've only had a cursory interest in the 10mm, but an XD in 10 would change that completely.

I'd buy one right now, I guess I better send a letter to Springfield.:)

July 2, 2007, 05:52 PM
Well, I've got a Witness full 45acp size that will take the 10mm slide and barrel. I've got a Witness Elite Match originally in .40S&W that EAA sent me a new 10mm barrel for (after I gave them the serial #) and they delivered it to my door 72hours after I ordered it. AFIK any 40 S&W pistol can be adapted to 10mm as long as the magwell will take cartridge lengths of 1.260" the bore is still .400 you just have to build it tough enough to take up to 40,000 lbs of chamber pressure.
The CZ clone built by Tanfoglio of Italy and known here as the Witness is one such strong healthy pistol. I see no reason why the XD couldn't be its equal.

July 2, 2007, 07:14 PM
tease......just when i thought it was safe to go back in the gun store

July 2, 2007, 10:23 PM
Been asking for one since they brought out the 45. Been a subject of debate on XDTalk.com for over a year. The following poll surprised me by the number of people who wouldn't consider it. Personally, I'd have at least one, maybe more.

I'm not in the market for any firearms right now. That being said, I'd pry open my wallet to buy one.

July 3, 2007, 02:49 AM
Has anyone checked if a 10mm round fits in the 40 magazine? EAA has this covered, but I'd prefer an XD also. If that hurdle is gotten over, the rest is relatively easy if the likes of Wolff offers stouter springs for the XD and the slide cycles open enough.

A slide/mag conversion kit would be awesome, but 130 sales (I signed the petition as no. 130) would fall very short of making the tooling investment worthwhile. A conversion of the 40, if possible, is a much more viable alternative. And only viable if, and only if, the magazines would work and the slide opens long enough for the 10mm round. If that works, the rest is a simple process of creative machine work.

Folks with 40 XDs, please contact me and I'll send you a 10mm round for a magazine fit check if there is truly that much interest in making the conversion. Or hit up your gun store, my favorite store pulled some 10mm ammo off the shelf for me to check on some 40 cal pistol I can't recall at the moment. It didn't work, suppose that's why I can't recall it.

I'd happily purchase an XD if it seemed feasible. Heck, I purchased a S&W CS40 with that in mind, but more research (after the purchase of course) revealed that alloy frames don't stand up the the 10mm round and the rails wear out in ~1k rounds. :(

July 3, 2007, 01:30 PM
That poll is surprising. I wonder how many said no based on ammo price and availability?

July 3, 2007, 03:19 PM
FWIW you apparently can convert a G21 to shoot 10mm by swapping the barrel out, not sure about the mag. In other words, no extractor changes needed. The smaller diameter isn't great enough to cause problems.
