I was thinking about getting a pocket holster for my M85 Taurus Snubbie. The intended outfit is a pair of cargo shorts. For those of you unfamiliar, the pockets on cargo shorts have much more space and are wider than pockets on a pair of jeans or slacks.

Does a pocket holster even make sense here? Or would I just draw and pull out the holster w/the pistol?

I use a Law Concealment Systems pouch in a front pocket of my carpenter's jeans for my P11 AND my Taurus M85UL. It has a flat shape and would fit a cargo pocket well, though I don't carry in cargo pockets. It can also go IWB by slipping the spring loaded lip over your pants waist and putting your belt over it. It's quite comfy IWB, too. I have the LCS II 1/2 This thing is pretty versatile, can even double as an on waist double magazine holster if you so desire, though I've never used it for that. It works great for J frames with 2" barrels and small autos like my Kel Tec P11.

I wear cargo shorts.
Remember, when drawing from the pocket, the stroke is not just straight up, it's back and up. It takes some getting used to, but it's not difficult to learn.

Much weight in cargo pockets can beat you to death when you walk or run. I use Propper BDU pants, and carry the gun in the front pocket, not the cargo pocket. Kramer makes a wonderful pocket holster. I have temporarily stashed handguns in cargo pockets of various pants over the years; it only works when sedentary.

I carry an 85 in a Mikas or Galco holster.
Both work fine with cargo pants...well, maybe the Mikas is retained a bit better in the pocket. The Mikas also covers the hammer, so less likely to snag during a draw.
The 85 is a great pocket pistol if it's an ultra-light or multi-alloy model. The steel guns are a bit heavy, IMHO.

I don't think carrying any gun in a pocket is a good idea.

Check out Don Hume and De Santis. Both are excellent for my P3AT. Unfortunately Don Hume is so limited in production you would be lucky to find one but De Santis is a good second :D

I frequently wear cargo pants, and I'm very pleased with the Mika holster that contains my Kahr PM9. A pocket holster needs to only position, protect and break up the outline of the gun, not retain it as a belt holster does.

Yup, a P3AT (soon to upgrade to PF-9) in a Nemesis in the front pocket, suspenders, tucked-in wifebeater, and a Hawaiian overshirt, and I'm good to go...

I even carried a PT-145/Nemisis in that pocket 'till I got tired of it.

When I wrote "retain", I meant that the holster is retained in the pocket (not the gun in the holster).
Cargo pants have a pretty loose pocket (relatively speaking). Depending on the style of pants/pockets, the Galco holster I have will pull out with the gun during a draw.
However, the Galco works great with all the other jeans or trousers I own.

Check out http://www.handgunholsters.net/ Its a drop holster on the inside of the pocket. It is my preferred carry in the summer. I conceal a Sig 229 with no one the wiser all day long. Finding a loose fit, baggy pocket is important to make everything work.

Any pocket holster that comes out with the gun is poorly designed IMO. Mika's and Uncle Mike's fit the gun loosely and have a "rub strip" (as I call it) that provides a bit of friction or grip against the pocket material. Uncle Mike's, however, are not made for the individual gun. With my Kahr I found that the material blocked my second finger from coming up under the grip. With leather pocket holsters you want some sort of tab or other projection that will catch against the top of your pocket.
