I friend of mine is trying to rebuild his child hood rifle. It is a 22 Single shoth marked as a Cruso. We did find a bolt but it appears that the extractor is missing (if the model indeed has one). Two real questions. Does anyone have, or know where to obtain take down instructions for this firearm> Does any one know where the best place to look for parts is? He also needs the complete trigger mechanism.

ANY help or advise would be helpful.

Thx,

Paul

Cruso was a trademark of Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co., a large Chicago hardware store and hardware distributor. See:

www.encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org/pages/2700.html

for a company history, and a Google search on the name will turn up other HSB items.

Regretfully, those guns are long obsolete, probably close to a century old, and neither HSB nor the company that made them (probably Crescent) is in business any longer. HSB became "True Value", but the modern organization has no information on the old products.

That gun may be worth restoring, but only for sentimental value. In terms of dollar value, it has none. A gunsmith might be able to make parts or adapt those from another gun, but the cost would be far more than the dollar value of the gun.

You might call or e-mail Gun Parts Corporation (www.gunpartscorp.com), but I would not hold out much hope. They don't list the gun in their catalog and it would be only sheer luck if they had parts.

Does it look like this one?

Auction starts at $50, but there's a Reserve Price.

I looked at the one on auctoion arms.

It is similar looking to several actions that might not be to hard to find parts for.

A picture of what is hidden by the wood is needed to see if there is a chance of finding anything.
