92FS Vertec--Uneven Barrel Lockup

It's accurate enough but the barrel locks up rubbing against the lower left portion of the slide. Finish on the contacting part of the barrel is already worn off. Is this a Bad Thing?

The barrel on my blue Centurion doesn't look like that...hmmm...I wonder if that is a new production thing :scrutiny: How many rounds did that?
Hey, isn't this your "beater" gun? I wouldn't worry about it ;)

Skunk-
I've seen this with pretty much every Beretta I've ever owned. The wear does seem to be showing pretty early on yours, but my first 92 showed barrel wear pretty quickly and its still running fine 22,000 rounds later.

I've seen wear like whats on the bottom, but unless you know what causes it, I'm not sure about the barrel crown. Holster? Aggressive cleaning?

How many times do I have to tell you Skunk, you don't clean grease off of your muzzle by wiping it on the sidewalk...

Sorry about the hostility, but I just gotta say this!
In my experience......Typical for a Made In Maryland Beretta!!!!! I swear everyone of them has a got damned crooked lockup. Either the barrel is leaning left or leaning right.
I'll never look at anything other than an Italian Beretta again.
My 2001 American made Beretta was so far left it couldn't hit the wall of a barn from inside. And I've handled many examples that were almost as bad. The lockup on mine was worse than yours. My fathers 94' Italian 92FS is absolutely perfect. And it shoots dead center.

Geeze - You muzzle loading that thing with rocks?:scrutiny:
And get rid of that chinsy guide rod.

Mine has the same marks but up closer to the end of the barrel. It's an even mark around the bottom of the barrel and there's one mark on the top left side looking down the gun. The end of my barrel has some chips on it but not that bad. Whatever, it still shoots good. I tried touching the spots up once but of course they came right back. You can't see them when the slide's forward anyway.

A steel guide rod might help solve the problem. I've never seen wear to the crown like that. You sure you're not using cheapo ammo that's leaving lead residue on the crown?

As long as it locks up in the same off-kilter fashion on every shot, it shouldn't affect anything; it's when it locks up in a different place every time that accuracy kinda suffers. ;)

I get pretty decent groups at 17 yards, so I don't think it's much of a problem.
Ogre, all the new Berettas come with the plastic guide rods.

Skunk, that looks pretty bad! My Beretta 92fs doesn't have any wear around the muzzle but it does have some rubbing marks on the bbl from use. I have about 1000 rounds through it.
I don't see how the muzzle wear could be the gun's fault unless the finsih is flaking off. It is a blue finish right, not a poly coat or something? I would have to agree with the "agressive cleaning" theory from the looks. Are you an agressive cleaner? :neener:

I once sent a Beretta 92 to Jarvis to have a match barrel fitted. I spoke with him on the phone beforehand as at the time he was supposed to be THE MAN when it came to 92 accuracy. He told me the secret to Beretta accuracy was to fit the barrel where it did not touch the slide especially at the front. Sure enough when the gun was returned to me the barrel was fitted that way and it was very accurate.

I would call Beretta. I have an old 92-G from 1995 and my Dept. Issued 96-G that has no wear anywhere close to that. I have never shot a vertec though. Maybe it is specific to them.

I could have told you that ;)
