Guess Washington isn't that bad...

If you can ignore the local news and forget that you live in the same state as Seattle, Washington isn't a bad place. For instance, just yesterday I bought a brand new Ruger SP-101, which I am bragging about on another thread.

Cool thing was, all I had to do was show my Concealed Pistol Permit, and I got to walk out the door with it 35 minutes after showing up at the gun store. And most of that time was spent deciding between the Ruger and saing 60 bucks on a Taurus.

Are other states with CCW permits like this, or do you still have to do the waiting period?

Same here. The only problem is:

You've registered yourself on their "Crazy Gun Nut Who Carries a Concealed Firearm" database. And WITH your fingerprints and photo-id. This is FAR more intrusive than the NIKS check but looks like you're being treated better because you just flash the card.

Not bagging on you. I've got a CCW myself.

Doesn't work that way in Virginia; we still have to undergo a NICS check. But we've got some pretty active pro-gun Delegates starting the new legislative session in Richmond today. VCDL has been working hard to get Dels Cole and Lingamfelter to sponsor new CCW-related bills, and we're hopeful that most will pass despite the Fairfax contingent's objections.

I don't know - I've purchased a handgun and been out the door in about 30 minutes in both Arlington Co. and Pr Wm Co, VA (granted, I had been in before and figured out what I wanted) with NICS check. Va was among the first (if not the first) to go to computerized checks, and aside form the silly-assed 3-day wait in Fairfax, I've never had a problem or real inconvenience.

VA went to 1 handgun/month aobut 10 years ago pressured by a big boo-hoo from DC and NYC sbout all their miscreants buying their guns here and running them there. Well, there's still no shortage of guns in DC, NYC, but we Virginians are still inconvenienced. Just more sound Democrapic thinking - pass more laws to regulate people who have already demonstrated that they don't obey the law. Go figure:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Here in Florida you have to undergo the instant background check to buy, even with a CCP. But no waiting period so most purchases take about 15 minutes.

It ain't perfect but it beats some of the alternatives.

I've been meaning to get hold of my local rep to see if we can get that NICS check law changed. They already did the investigation for the CWP!

I normally have no problems, but at least once I had to drive all the way back to the silly store after it was OK'ed :fire:

My permit came with a 5 yr pass on the Nics check. I show my permit and my 5yr pass pay for gun if it's a pistol have it put on my permit(takes about 5 min) and go back and pick up the gun. Long guns just flash my credentials and I am out the door no checks. No wait.

Texas and Tennessee too, I think. There are others, I believe.

You are correct about Texas. Flash your CHL, and your paperwork runs through rather quickly.

In Illinois you have to register yourself and buy a license, but it doesn't entitle you to CCW. It also doesn't negate the waiting periods, even though you have to undergo a thorough background check and wait at least two to six weeks to get your FOID card in the first place.
