I'm not certain what the firearms laws are in Nigeria, but the article describes basically that the price of machetes there dropped by half following an election. Machetes, it turns out, are a favored weapon of political thugs in that area. Once the election was done, demand dropped drastically so that a guy who was selling seven a day can't even sell one at half the previous price.

To me, this is just another indicator: No matter what, bad people will be getting weapons.
