My cousin bought one a few weeks ago and he now wishes he would have bought a Ruger MKII or a Beretta Neos. I have never seen it chamber the 1st round reliablly (it always jams) and this is with several brands of ammo. The one good thing to say about it is the trigger. IMHO use the funds elsewhere and get a decent performing rimfire pistol.

I love my Trailside, much, much moreso than my Ruger.
I have the Competition model with anatomic grips, adjustable sights, and a weighted 6" barrel. It runs about $700 new, but I paid $450 for a used one. I've seen new basic models (with fixed sights :barf: ) selling for $375-$450. At that price it's hard to recommend, unless you're gonna run straight out and put optics on it. Anyway...

The mags are plastic, and you can break them if you abuse them. It may or may not feed conical-profile hollow points. It doesn't come in stainless. Optics have to be removed for cleaning.

It has a sweet trigger. It'll shoot under 1" at 25yds with cheap ammo. The adjustable sights are fairly nice, better than Ruger's.

You'll probably be happy with a Ruger or Browning. But the Trailside deserves a shot if the price is right.

They must be evil dangerous guns since they aren't on my state's approved list

I have the 4" fixed sight Trailside. It is my "always" gun. It always goes to the range with me no matter what I take. For a plinker this is the cat's meow. Size, weight and handling are perfect for a plinker. Trigger is good, clean break with no creep or grittiness. I shoot it a lot more often than my Model 46 target pistol.

Early Trailsides had a problem with the mags. FTF problems were traced directly to the mags. Sig came out with some new mags that fixed the problem. The new mags are still plastic but have a vertical slot in the feed lips. I bought four extra mags with my Trailside, all with the split lips. I had a few jams within the first 10 rounds or so out of each mag but I've never had a problem since. I've put several thousand rounds through it with no problems.

I got the Trailside for $450 NIB. I don't know what they sell for now.

The stock rubber grips were completely wrong for me. All the bumps and swells were completely in the wrong place. I only saw one other set of grips for it and didn't like them so I made a set of walnut grips for it. Turned out really nice.

FWIW, you can get the anatomic grips, either right or left handed, from www.larrysguns.com . Nill also makes a very nice looking walnut anatomic grip for the Trailside. Both are fairly expensive, unfortunately.
