I have a friend who's thinking about buying a Colt pistol, are they really worth the price?

Yes, the news ones are of good quality as well as the old ones previously mentioned. They had some quality control problems in the middle years and lost a lot of market to Springfield and Kimber. But the new management is really working hard to give the customer something deserving of the Colt name.
I have a new rollmarked Commander that I bought last year. The blued finish is perfect throughout. It has nice wood grips and good sights.
It is accurate and has been totally reliable. I would not hesitate to buy another one or recommend them to someone.

It depends on the model and the price. But new Colts are outstanding guns and an excellent value at the usual going street prices. Both Ted Yost and Dane Burns, among others, have commented on how good the new Colts are.

Really? Most of the Colt pistols I see are over $1,000; if they're worth their price then those must be pretty dang good!

Where the hell are you shopping? $1,000 is a ripoff for anything but a Gold Cup Trophy or Special Combat Government model. Or an obscure older model.
A new Colt 01991 is a $550-600 gun. Add $50-100 for stainless. A new Series 70 is a $850 gun.

There is no reason why you can't get a "new rollmarked" Government Model for between $575-$600 out the door. These are beautiful guns.

Are you talking about the Single Action Army, by any chance?

Ummm...I can't remember which one he said it was, all I know is that it's not a revolver. I'm just askin about Colt pistols in general.
BTW. This is probably a stupid question but what do they call the pistols that use clips that aren't revolvers? Do you just call them pistols?

I bought a 1991a1 a few years ago that I had no problems with. It ended up becoming my project gun. I ended up selling it to a shooting buddy for what I put into it. Now I'm thinking about picking up another one.

PowerSlave, I have to agree with you. I tend to "churn" guns alot and have had or have SVI, STI, HK, SIG, GLOCK, Beretta, Sphinx, CZ, Springfield, you name it.
But my COLTS are indeed "SAFE" from ever being sold. I currently have 2 hard chrome Special Combat Government Competitons, 2 MKIV gov stainless enhanced 38 supers, a stainless Pony pocketlite, a stainless Mustang pocketlite and a Mustang Lady Elite. They are all 100% reliable and were from day one!!
I happen to be particularly fond of the .38 super round. I have SVI, STI, SIG and Colts in .38 super. My favorites are my Colts. I plan on buying a few more Colts (.38 super) but haven't decided which ones yet. Would love to find a commander size but in stainless or bright stainless (have only found blued ones).
Not bashing any of the other manufacturers by any stretch of the imagination.....I am just very fond of Colts and they've been reliable for me.

IMHO, the only one in the current Colt lineup that has a price that is completely out of line with reality is the Anaconda.

The new 1991A1's are a great pistol. I picked up my NRM Stainless 1991A1 for $609.

IMHO, the only one in the current Colt lineup that has a price that is completely out of line with reality is the Anaconda. I agree. It is a real shame since I really like their revolvers but I don’t really think they’re worth the asking price.
