I'm going to the Six Flags in Arlington ina few days and would like to carry a knife. Are there any rules, etc. that could keep me from carrying a knife?

It's been awhile, but I seem to remember the last time I was at a six flags there was a metal detector on the way in. That, and posted signs of a strict no weapons policy.

There is another weapon choice you could make that will not set off the metal detectors. they are no good for slashing, but they have a strong point for stabbing. talking about the nylon delta darts like Cold Steel and other manufactureres produce. they are about 7" long, have a round checkered handle, and a triangular shaped shaft that comes to a point.

could also find a "CIA" letter opener made of nylon as well as knuckle-knives. altimately, its your rear end, proceed at your own risk, good luck .

I do know that Six Flags was the entity that lobbied for (and got) the clause in the original CHL law that made amusement parks off limits. (It's since been softened to require that the park post a 30-06 sign.)

Doesn't sound like a weapons friendly place...

Here's all their website says:

"PARK SECURITY
Your safety is our top priority. All guests are required to pass through metal detectors and have their bags inspected. Inappropriate items should be left at home or in your car."

Thanks for the info guys. This helps now that I have an idea on what I shouldn't bring with me to the park. I'm gonna take a look at the nylon delta darts.

The "CIA" letter opener is a dagger, making it generally illegal to carry in Texas. The delta dart is arguably a dagger as well.

Knuckles are a prohibited weapon in Texas.

Yeah, no knives. That being said, the first time I went there as an adult I wasn't aware of the rule, and I had an expensive folder in my pocket. I wasn't about to hand it over (knowing I'd never get it back), so I just took my chances going through the gates. I got through without anyone noticing it, but on subsequent trips I just left it in the truck.
BTW I am not suggesting that you carry it anyway and violate the rules, I am just sharing an anecdote.
Also, FWIW I try to avoid places that are so sissified about such things. I feel naked without at least a decent folder.

Why don't you call them and ask them yourself what blade length is permitted on their property?

"Hi, we're going to be bringing the family to the park next week and I had a question or two."

"Yessir."

"My dad and I have always carried pocket knives, but with the crazy way people are we wanted to find out if ya'll had any problem with them. Texas says anything under 5 1/2" is legal. Dad carries a sodbuster with a 3" blade and I carry a 4" Spyderco, but I thought I'd ask if ya'll had any rules stranger than the state before we got there."

"Sir, our policy is ....."

"Thanks. My next question is, if I'm a legal handgun carry permit holder am I allowed to bring my gun as long as it stays concealed?"

"Sir, our policy is ....."

"Do you have a place in the security office like Disney does to drop these off when we go into the park? Wouldn't want anyone to break into the van and steal them."

"Sir, we..."

"Thanks. Can you mail (or fax or give the URL) for those so I can show them to my dad? He'll be a little annoyed and I want to show it to him in black and white."

"Yessir, ..."

If they're anything like Disney when I was there last year, when you get there you can tell them you've got a CHL and your gun or a pocket knife and that you want to secure it at Security while you're in the park. They should have a property bag and a locker that you'll keep the key to while in the park. When you leave you give them the receipt and unlock the locker and take your gear with you.

I heard that Jason. I avoid such places at all costs.

Thanks again for the info guys. I think I will probably bring a not so expensive knife and just leave it at their security booth. When I leave the park I'll pick it up. I'm more worried about the parking lot than the park itself.

I just remembered something about my last trip to a six flags since my earlier post. It was in New Jersey, maybe about 3 years ago. And although they had a metal detectors and weren't letting people with knives through, I was wearing a very long, large, and heavy "wallet chain" and got through security with it just fine... heh .. someone there was just not thinking ..

We were at a Six Flags Park in Ca in May and the metal detector didn't pick up my knife or keys - the only thing that security seemed to be concerned about was cell phones.

don't even leave your knife in the car. i went some years back, and was carrying spydie civilian with me then. i had to leave it in the car, because of their zero tolerance policy. after 4 hours of a good time, i got back to my car, and it was stolen. funny thing is, the only other things missing were my cigarettes and a couple of cd's.
