As I understand it, match-grade .22 rifle barrels are made such that when the round is chambered, the bullet is touching / pressing against the rifling. This is done to improve accuracy by decreasing the likelihood that the bullet will enter the barrel 'crooked'.

That being the case, why would you not want your semi-auto pistol rounds to have the longest recommended OAL? (I understand that seating the bullet down toward the minimum OAL would provide slightly higher pressure = higher velocity.)

IF you seat it that long then it probably wont fit in your mag. I use a COAL that is as long that will reliably feed in the mags.
