Any one have any exp. with this one.
I am thinking of picking up a 10 to add to my collection and I dont care for the glock.
How good are these guns ?
Or would it be better to track down a Delta ?
I have seen these priced generally 500 or less .
How well do they hold up to the hot handloads?

I had a 1076 that worked really well. The downside for me was the grip not fitting that well and ammo was hard to find.

They are sweet shooters and very little recoil do to their weight (about 40 oz). Mine was $450 at a show in like new cond. You wand the upgraded mags with white followers and the hogue grips are big but very soft.
The trgger can be a little heavy but fixable and they DO group! You can get a heavier recoil spring and Buff tech makes a buff for them now so it can shoot hot loads. Siver tips feel like 45 acp.

S&w 1006
Excellent, well-built and accurate ...
Just as robust and reliable as its .45acp counterpart, the 4506. The action can be smoothed out if that's an issue, and the 9-rd mags (w/ the white followers) are still available.
You get 9+1 high-performance firepower in a stainless steel, single-stack pistol. Yeah, some complain that 10XX-series Smiths are heavy, but their weight dampens recoil so much that it's really a nonissue.
The 1006 is probably the perfect 10mm gun to load up with 10mm ammo at or near its original strength. My 1076 has been a flawless performer with both hot & mild loads. The 1006 I picked up a while back was relatively unfired but has now digested about 600 rds, ranging from merely pretty warm to smokin' - a variety of the stouter factory loads available from ProLoad, Texas Ammo, CorBon, Georgia Arms, and every 10mm fans' ol' standby, the Winchester 175gn STHPs.(It also liked PMC's 10mm/170gn HP load, which my custom Delta didn't. Go figure.)
A local 'smith smoothed out the DA trigger pull, and I replaced the fixed white-dot sights with Novak tritiums and added a set of Hogue's rubber grips (which also fit the 4506). This 1006 produces groups every bit as tight as the slicked-up SA .45 1911s guys bring to the local range. And it's basically still a stock gun.
If my 1076 suddenly went belly-up, I'd start packin' the 1006 without thinking twice about it (upon qualification, of course ;) ).
HTH.

Don't even think twice about not getting a 1006 ...

... a local shop near me has a NIB 1006 for eight bills -- if I wasn't out of work and had the spare money, I would buy a second one to add to the collection in a heart beat.

Alan:
Very nice lookin' 1006 (adj. site model). :)
These are great American-made pistols - all pre-sellout agreement, too.

As stated in previous posts, the S&W 10xx are great pistols.
As for comparing it to a Delta, though I have recently come around on my thinking that the 10mm and 1911 are not a match, I still think the Smitty's are a better match for the cartridge. And you will probably be able to find the Smitty for half of what you will pay for the Delta.
As neither of these pistols are still in production, move quick. Prices are going no where but way the Hell up.:what:
