I have Smith & Wesson 32 Long CTG.
Made in: Springfield MASS USA
Last Pat date: Sept 2, 1902
Serial No: 7992
I was told this Gun was used by the Boston Police Dept.
I do not know nothing about the gun. I was wanting to know about how much it would be worth.

Greeting's And Welcome To The High Road-

Sorry, I can't be of much help; but many, many moons ago the S&W .32 Long
cartridge was considered a major player in police circles. Beat officers often
carried 4" S&W revolvers chambered in this caliber; so its very possible that
your weapon was used by the Boston Police Department. Colt also made a
.32 caliber weapon that used a different cartridge; the .32 Colt New Police.
Its hard to tell from your pics the exact worth of your firearm? But, one
thing is for sure; it would make a nice addition to any collection~! ;):D

It looks like one of the .32 Hand Ejectors, please verify the serial number on the butt (botton side of frame below grip area) and see if that number matches one stamped on the face of the cyclinder and the underside of the barrel (flat area in fromt of the frame). Also check that last patent date. If that serial number is correct its a .32 HE Model 1903, produced 1903-1904, with a value range of $700 for new in box to a low of $90 for poor according to the current SCSW.

a different cartridge; the .32 Colt New Police.

Uh, Dan, the .32 Colt New Police (or .32 Police Positive) is the same as the .32 S&W Long except for an inconsequential flat bullet nose. They gave up on the heel bullet .32 Long Colt pre WW I.

Under the barrel it has the number: 7992
On the bottom of the grip it has the number: 7992
I opened the cylinder and it has the same number in two different places: # 13054. It is a hand eject.

Fellows, I think he has a .32 Hand Ejector Model of 1903 (.32 Handejector Second Model). S.N. range 1 - 19425 made between 1903 - 1904

That serial number does make it a .32 Hand Ejector, M1903, you may want to get the gun lettered by sending $30 and a complete description along with your photos to Mr. Roy Jinks, Historian, Smith& Wesson, P.O. Box 2208, Springfield, MA 01102. The factory authenticity letter will let you know when the revolver was shipped and where it was shipped to - this may establish Boston P.D. provenance if it was purchased directly by the P.D. from Smith. In any case its a nice revolver and a fine example of early Smith HE's.
