The Dems are loading up their slime cannons over Judge Pickering's re-nomination. Schumer just declared Pickering to have exhibited "glaring racial insensitivity" in seeking a reduced sentence (originally 7 years) for a defendent convicted of burning a cross on the lawn of an interracial couple - while both accomplices had plea-bargained their way out of any significant punishment.

Should the Bush Administration have re-nominated Pickering, and is he a good choice for the 5th Circuit?

Pickering is already an appeals court judge. The people opposing him now are the same ones who have already voted for him in the past. Pickering was Borked to make a point to Bush, ":Don't you ever, ever send us a conservative judge." Schumer said as much back when Pickering was first vetted.

My view? Bush is a practicioner of the "Bristles First" school of political combat. Some times he goes wobbly, but by and large Bush will stick it to the opposition when the planets are aligned his direction. He will engage in combat but he wants a definite chance of victory before committing resources.

Now all we need to do is train Bush how to fight more than one battle at a time.

Lets hope all nominees Bush proposes are to the right of Attilla the Hun. Maybe one or more of the liberal Demorats will succomb to to their rage and stroke out.
