Got a reloading press years ago and since then have put a couple of 1000 rounds through my taurus tracker and now the cylinder does not spin freely but seems a bit slow. was wondering how i can remove the cylinder to clean it? the online manual does not mention the procedure.

thanks

Don't know much about the Tracker but you might want to check under the extractor star first and see if some debris might be causing it to bind.

with my ROssi I put some empty cases in the charge holes, envelope the end of the ejector rod with a piece of farly stiff leather, then turn the rod end with a pair of pliers.
The tricky part is knowing if it's right or lh threaded.
As I recall,my cylinder rotates counter clockwise as viewed from the firing normal firing pisiton, and the rod unscrews the same direction.I suspect thsi keeps the rod from dis engaging itself while firing..if the threads were the revers dirction of the cylinders' travel it would come undone quite often methinks.
remember,I said use EMPTY cases to help support the star while doing this.

Or, you can remove the forward side plate screw and remove crane and all. The screw keeps the crane in place.

taurusarmed website question here, its been covered a few times in both the rossi and the taurus revolver section.

Not too complicated aparently from the posts i have seen.

To remove the cylinder from the crane you must first remove the ejector rod and extractor - procedure as explained above by SASS. Then by wedging a screw driver between the crane and the front of the cylinder and twisting the head you will be able to pop the cylinder free from the expansion jaws of yoke shaft. These jaws hold the cylinder on and have no room to move inward to release unless the extractor shaft is removed first.

As above, but for cleaning, I'd just remove the forward side plate screw and remove the crane/cylinder as a unit. Much easier, but do use a proper flat ground screwdriver. I have a set with interchangeable blades ground just for gunsmithing. Keeps from marring screws when you have the proper size bit for the screw.

I distinctly remember this question at taurusarmed.net. Hmm, I'll go look when I get time. Maybe it was on another site, but this question comes up for smith style revolvers from time to time.
