Desert Eagle Alternative

I've been looking at a M.R. Desert Eagle .44 mag; I've heard it's a good gun just not practical because of it's price. Does anyone know of another pistol like it that is more economical.

if you mean an Automatic in .44Mag...not really. There are Coonan's in .357, various Automags in big calibers, and the Grizzly in 50 and I think in .44. They're all a bit hard to find, and pricy when you find them. The latest craze is the Mateba's but they are a like em or hate em type gun, and not 'technically' an auto.
The Desert Eagle is really one hell of a good gun, and the price isn't really that bad when you start looking at alternatives. If you take your time, you can get a used one for a good deal. Lots of people buy them, put half a box downrange and decide they don't like them, and trade them in on something.
I got my Mark I .357 two tone for 700, a friend picked up a barely used Mark VII .50 for 650. He just recently got a good deal on a .44 barrel for it. paid $250 I think.

Buy a Glock 20: more practical and much cheaper.

I think a 10mm would fill the bill (unless you're looking for a gas operated pistol).

I've had several chances to shoot LAR Grizzlies and I love 'em. They can be had in .38/.357, .44 Mag, and .45 Win Mag. Like the Desert Eagle, switching between calibers simply requires changing out the recoil spring, barral, and magazine. Pruice is a bit lower then Desert Eagles too (and the LAR is much more comfortable to handle, too).

There is the AMT Automag.
But Id rather the S&W Mountain Gun as my alternate.

For a semi auto in 4 mag, I don't know of any other options. But as a 44 mag in general, the Ruger revolvers are a nice choice.

I second the AMT Automag. They are around and very very solidly built. Brass is available from Starline so you should be set.
If you get one, let me know how it shoots. Mine is NIB in the safe waiting for "just" the right buyer or moment to shoot.
Always curious though.....
