last one of these I looked at was $750 new, Smith lists MSRP at around $925 but thats MSRP and not reality too.

I paid just over seven bills for mine. My 629 Classic is a nice gun! Interhchangable front sight, nice trigger, locks up like a bank vault, and even a slightly beveled cylinder!
