Im looking into setups for mounting a weapons light on my HD Shotgun (Mossberg 590). Currently thinking about the surefire front end but before I go and saw off my bayonet lug I want to know what everyone else uses. So if anyone has a one mounted on there 590 could you please post a pic or tell me how you accomplished it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No pics, but my department uses the Surefire 618 forearm replacement weaponlight on our Remington 870 Police shotguns ... I'm not real impressed with the battery life (seems maybe the lights get switched on and off a lot every time the weapons are taken out of the vehicles at shift changes for loading/unloading).
But I'd vouch for the system as being the best I've seen and used on a shotgun.
It's a neat gizmo, and I'd looked at one for my Mossberg. I've not been able to find the forearm replacement lights for under $250 and had not even thought about the bayonet lug on the 590 (even if it needs to be removed, I'm not sure I'd ever even think about putting a bayonet on my shotgun).

You can up the runtime on many SureFire lights with an LED replacment module. Much more battery life, and with the new CREE LED's it's actualy brighter than the Xenon Halogen incandescent bulb. It ought to put out 100 lumens at least, as compared to the standard incandescent's 60.
It'll probably also never need replacing, and it will be much more shock and recoil resistant too.
They can be had as low as $11.00 or so online. IIRC, this unit is compatible with any two-celled SureFire that uses the same lamp assembly as the original SureFire 6P.

You might need to do some research to figure out exactly what module fits what SureFire, but the guys at www.candlepowerforums.com have already probably answered the question before.
You might find a used 590 SureFire forend on eBay, and with this upgrade, you'll have a SureFire light that you'll probably not find on shelves for another six months. (SureFire is going with the Cree in many items, but it'll take awhile for them to work through distribution channles, and for outrageous new item price premiums to fall away...)

Years ago I got a rail mount from Sidearmor that mounted to the barrel and mag tube of my 590. Add any light that attaches to a rail, and you're done. Sidearmor does not make that model anymore.
Since there is a bayonet lug, I guess it is the same as mine which takes an M7 (M16 rifle) bayonet. I have heard of lights which attach to the bayonet mount, but I do not have a source.

While an LED light is brighter it may not project out as far. I use LED for inside use only.

I have a 623FA on my 590, and wish that I'd got the FGA instead, since it has the master kill switch.
