Hi guys. I just picked up a used Hesse AK-47. It is in pretty good shape and is chambered for .223. It has an old scope on it and is fairly accurate. I was doing some research on it tonite since it was sort of an impulse buy. I paid $275. I've read a bunch of good things about the rifle and one really bad review. Anybody here have any experience with these? I'd appreciate any feedback.

The Kalashnikov is a pretty simple & robust design, capable of being manufactured in turd world countries. Even Hesse shouldn't screw it up too badly. (I've encountered a few people with Hesse AR's who weren't happy, and Hesse receivers for FALs are not regarded highly.)

I did get to shoot it before I bought it and if nothing else, it was a lot of fun! Hopefully I don't end up getting hosed. The dealer is a friend of mine though so I know he'd take care of me if there were any problems. I got it just mainly as a fun novelty-type of thing.

The only magazines that reliably work in a .223 AK are German ones made by Weiger. You can get them from AIM Surplus and Inter-Ordnance. The converted AK-74 mags that some places sell are POS.

It came with a 10 round and a 30 round magazine. both seemed to feed fine so far. How much are the magazines you're talking about?
