This rumor goes around every few months, but I've seen a number of posts at the AK-47 forum that lend a lot of weight behind this rumor. According to them, Century is not going to import any more SAR-1s. 2s, or 3s. Perhaps someone might know a little more about this. Well, anyway, there are always VEPRs if it is true.

In situations like this you can just call them up and ask them.

There have been lots of rumors in the past about DSA rifles and DSA would give you a straight answer.

Call them up and ask them.:)

I haven't heard that one.

It seems very unlikely since SAR1s are selling pretty good. In the latest Shotgun News Century Arms is also selling SAR1s with the folding stocks permanently welded to the open position.

Sounds like a ploy to boost sales. I can't tell you how many times I've seen an add state " No more will be available ever again!". About 3 months later they somehow dig up a stash in the salt mines of Russia that no one has ever seen before. Go figure....

Tropical z:

Do you have one? I think they're absolutely servicable and reliable. In fact I've opted to use the SAR-1 over my AR as my all purpose defence rifle. Mounted a Kobra on it and it's great. Obviously I didn't get one with canted sights. It is much more reliable than my AR and I love it. A very nice rifle for the price. hi-cap capacity etc. What are your drawbacks on this weapon? As I really havn't found any so far...

I think there may actually be something to the rumor this time, just based on posts from a couple of people, whose opinion I respect, at other forums. If true, it may be even more interesting to learn why Century will no longer be importing them, and whether someone else will or can take Century's place.

I've read the same thing over at AK-47.net. Something like that Century is saying due to increased cost overseas they won't be stocking them anymore.

I work at the Marine Corps Exchange Gun Counter and was told by my supervisor (she was told by Elliot Brothers - our distributor) that the supply is dwindling, and the currency rate is high. The currency rate being high is what I believe and it's causing them to be more expensive, and Elliot Bros won't be getting anymore in for about a year.

We have 7 in back that they're bring out - once the word is out they should be gone by Friday......

Just what I was told.....

I was the unfortunate owner of a SAR-2 that my dealer brought in just for me.Its only worthy feature was being able to shoot around corners because of its ridiculously canted front sight.PPPPPAAAASSSSSSSS!!!!:barf: Saiga's are vastly better quality.

I received a Email from Century Intl the other day about the last remaining SAR's Ever as they put it. So I guess the rumor is true. I have two nice ones in unfired condition. Guess I'll hag on to them and see what happens. I have noticed the price going up a little.

MY SAR-1 is an accurate, utterly reliable weapon. Love it.

Well, I guess the only game in town will pretty much be VEPR. Oh well, at least I GOT an AK this time. I used to see the Norinco AKs all over and thought, "Oh, they'll always be there. I'll get one later." I kicked myself LATER, too. :banghead: So when I saw that SAR, I snapped that joker up! You see, Tropical Z, you have to know the art of picking a firearm. You find a good poker hand in the serial number and it'll be a great shooter. No, I'm serious! My SAR has three-of-a-kind in nines. Now, here's the cool part. After that, I got a Ruger International with four-of-a-kind in nines and then a Baby Eagle 9mm with a full house nines over tens. This is how you pick a good specimen when you have a few to pick from. Of course, I didn't buy the SAR sight-unseen. It was sight-seen that brought it to my attention. :D The poker system. It works. Don't ask why, it just does. Firearms with jacks or better can open.

It wasn't but last WEEK that I decided to start saving for a SAR-1!!!
They're going to be priced out of my reach before I can afford one, doggone it.

Well, hopefully if the ban goes, we can go back to buying the Chinese MAK clones for less than $200. I would like an SAR2, but I think I may save the extra $$ for a MBR.

I think the AWB and the "No Chinese guns for you!" bans are separate, the latter being an executive order. I can't keep track of all the damn restrictions anymore.

Mmmm...MBR....

I picked up a SAR-2 last week at a shop in Ft. Worth. The guy only had two and I bought the one with good sights and a nice stock. After I stripped it and oiled it, the action is very smooth. This is the first AK I've bought in several years and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Romanian pieces. It looks like the QC is spotty, however.

I used to see the Norinco AKs all over and thought, "Oh, they'll always be there. I'll get one later." I kicked myself LATER, too.

That's me, too! One of my buddies had a Norinco and then later my father-in-law had one of the early MAK90s and I kept putting off picking one up...until it was too late!

I bought a SAR1 back in November and did so pretty carefully after reading the "bewares" of the canted sights, etc. Mine seems to be a good one, though I don't care for the sloppy fit of the stock to the rear of the receiver. I'd like to upgrade the whole furniture set at some point. In the meantime, this rifle's not even hiccupped once through about 500 rounds so far and has worked well with my mix of Chinese, Hungarian, and Romanian 30- and 40-round magazines.

I'd love to pick up another one (or maybe even two!) but I think my next firearms purchase will probably be another handgun.

We have run the AK-AR thing through the wringer on many an occasion. I have an ’02 SAR 1. Straight sights, gas tube and has never missed a beat… N.E.V.E.R. Never “too dirty”, never “well it doesn’t care for that ammo, etc… I like the heavy lacquer “Third World “ look of the furniture. The sights are a minus, heard there was a peep made by someone or I might go Kobra. One big ouch with this puppy. It will burn the TAR outta you with that big honkin’ gas tube. I’ll put up with it if it keeps on rockin', which I think it will! :D
