I can find a trigger guard, a 3/4" sling, some lederhosen in a size 30 waist, and one of those funny hunter's caps with the feather on it????

The Old Man got tired of another shottie and sent me home with it today after I rehung the shutters in his kitchen. Only little problem is that the trigger guard is broken right at the middle screw hole. The Old Man thought the guard was horn, but I took one look and determined that it was plastic. I Super-glued the two pieces back together then hollowed out the underside with a Dremel tool and reinforced the area with PC7 Epoxy putty (I just know that it isn't gonna hold....).

So - anyone know where I can start looking for a new trigger guard? Anyone know anyone who can make a new guard out of steel? Or should I call Sauer und Sohns and try asking them in my very, very bad German if they have any layin' around?

For the visual among you, here she is. 16-ga JP Sauer Royal Grade SxS (sans trigger guard....):

I think I'm going to take her Geezing tomorrow at PG. The Old Man never shot her - and I think that's a shame. Tomorrow she will be my partner for a round of Chinese Trap. And maybe some wobble with Dave afterward. She deserves it, don'tcha think?

Now, wo sind denn meine Lederhosen???

Please...no lederhosen pictures...I have a delicate stomach..
Sweet looking side by side, sir. Good luck on finding the trigger guard.

Strange....that shotgun looks to be of very high quality. Why would they use a plastic trigger guard on it? Seems to me a shotgun of that quality demands steel. Maybe its just me, though.....

Mighty purty.....

Any way I can get your dad to adopt me?

The TG is almost certainly horn. Common on prewar German guns of high quality. A friend had a stalking rifle with one that broke. Last I heard it was at Turnbull's.

See ya tomorrow. Bring lots of 16 gauge shells, please....

Nope, Dave - the trigger guard is plastic (it's a post-war gun, definitely).

I've never seen horn with a ridge down the middle and a part number cast into the back). She's definitely a high quality piece, otherwise. The metal work is, overall, stunning. Sharp and precise. You'll meet her tomorrow if'n yer out at PG for Geezing.

I'll let you know tomorrow ;)

Your guess is as good as mine. I'm pretty certain that it's a 50's gun. Maybe they "modernized" them and pimped them up for US GIs stationed in post-war Germany?

Either way - she'll be a neat little research project to kill some time on.

Post range report....

Shoots good. Even without the TG and with Super unused to dual triggers, he shot a 23 in first round of trap he shot with it. Chinese trap and wobble followed and showed that was no fluke.

I took a couple shots with it. Nice shotgun.....

She is nice, no? I think I'll keep her :p

I think I've really got the SxS bug. First few times I shot SxS's, years ago, they felt so foreign in my hands that it was downright uncomfortable. Now, all I want to shoot are SxS's - much to the chagrin of my 870s, my O/U, and my autoloaders.

I'm going to take the advice of the Geezer Crew and email or call Sauer about a replacement trigger guard - the original plastic one is toast. I was OK shooting it today without a TG, but I don't want to make a habit of it. Let's hope I can get a metal replacement from the source, rather than have to have one made...

SxS shotguns can get addictive, that crowd is mute testimony. Except for the WOP and two BT 99s, everything was a side by.

To wit....

One Parker 20 gauge.

One Parker Repro 12.

One Winchester 23 in 410.

One LC Smith 3" 12 with 32" barrels, simple but graceful lines and the seeming ability to find the target all by itself.

And the Sauer.....

That's a good group of SxS tools.

What a beautiful gun!!!! There are smiths out there who can fabricate a nice steel trigger guard and blue it to match. There are trigger guard BLANKS out there for doubles for just such a purpose. Your gun deserves no less!!!;)

A lot of gunsmiths can fit your double with a new trigger guard...and the gun is for sure worth the effort..........I know brownells sells the guards but they have to be final fit buy a smith..
