I was driving along the highway back into Alaska when I saw this mountain. It has a name; can you guess it?

Okay, you posted this in the rifle forum so that should narrow it down some. The part to the right kind of looks like a stock being held. It is Alaska. Hmm... I'm gonna go with Turkey Ridge. I'm right, aren't I?

I sure don't know, but if I were to name it, it'd be 'gunsight mountain'. How close to the bull did I come?

um.... well, whatever it is, I'm sure it IS rifle related, and when the Mods check back a little later (ahem cough cough hint hint), the relevance will be plain as day.

right? ;)

Gunsight Mountain from the Glenn Highway? If you were coming south and took the Old Glenn you drove right past me.

Gunsight mountain it is. I was driving along and saw a building called the "Gunsight Mountain Lodge" or something similar. My wife and I discussed it a bit and came to the conclusion there must be a mountain shaped like a gunsight. WOW! it sure is a buckhorn gunsight. It took me four photos to get one that was clear. From a little more to the right, it looks very symetrical.

BTW, if that is the rear sight, how big is the front sight and what poor target is the gigantic gun pointing at?
:what:

Kaylee: Isn't a Buckhorn sight rifle related? ;)

Cosmoline: Don't know which roads I took but they were sure as HECK rough. Lived in Alaska a while but never took the ALCAN. My Goodness that road sucks. Cost me TWO tires and probably a decade of wear on the shocks.

Neat! Well that's pretty cool -- I can certainly see how it got it's name.

And as for buckhorns being on topic... well... only if they're attatched to something with a rifled barrel, I think. ;)
