My wife and I visited the NRA's National Firearms Museum a couple of days ago. While we were there we saw a couple of semi-auto pistols I'd never seen or heard of. I don't have much to go on, I should have writed the name down, but they were large frame pistols, made of what appeared to be stainless steel. They were very square looking, with wood/walnut grips and had a walnut presentation case. The name was vagly Polish perhaps but I believe they were American manufacture. At the time I just sort of skimmed by them, but they've been bugging me ever since. They had that late 50's early 60's sort of look to them, and were in the same display case as the Gyroget's, so I guess they were from that same time period. They were actually very nice looking.

Anybody have a guess what they might have been?

But it's probably a Coonan.

Nope, sorry. It wasn't any of those. My wife looked it up on the computer at the museum, and agrees that it was a Slavic sounding name.

I'm going to have to drive back up there to find out now. :D

It is a Sokolovsky Automaster. Fifty were made in Sunnyvale, CA:

YES!!

Thank you. That's the one.

Reall nice looking handgun. Funny I didn't pay much attention to them when I saw them in the case, but they've been bugging me ever since.
