Matchlock Musket Inquiry

During the past few months, I have enjoyed reading numerous threads here about a wide array of blackpowder topics. Yet, I do not recall reading any postings about matchlock muskets, what I call the granddaddy of all blackpowder weapons. Has anyone here fired a replica matchlock? Or, has anyone seen someone fire one? I realize matchlocks replicas are rare, but I thought at least someone might have some experience with one. Thanks.

I have one. Got it several months ago and have fired it 20-30 times. Since I shoot rockers I can say that the ignition time is a little less. The biggest problem I have is finding proper sized match. Finally started to make my own.

Oneshooter, who manufactured your matchlock? And where do you purchase the match cords for them? I have been reading about these muskets in my studies of 16th century European history and have developed something of a fascination for them. Any info you can supply about your model would be greatly appreciated.

Dale Shinn of Sacramento makes mighty fine matchlocks. I've seen some of his fired at a Rendezvous. Saw one being fired again at Jamestown Settlement Park (near Jamestown Historic Site).

I bought mine on Auction Arms.It was home made by a fellow in Louiseana.
He used a 20ga shotgun barrel, and built his own lock. Matchcord, aka slowmatch, can be bought from Dixie Gun Works or Track of the Wolf.
OR, you can make your own by soaking pure cotton rope in a HEAVY solution of saltpeter and hot water. Let it soak overnight then hang and let dry.

Some sources for matchlocks and ML stuff!

They don't do so well in the rain, or for a night ambush!:D

Thanks for the references and links. Recently, I saw several matchlock muskets fired on a rerun of the Conquest TV series and this, along with some materials I had been reading about 16th century warfare, sparked my interest in them. Once again, thanks for the info.
